Formed at England’s Sussex University by pianist Pete Wingfield, Jellybread was originally
completed by Paul Butler (guitar/vocals), John Best (bass), and Chris Waters (drums).
In 1969 the quartet secured a recording contract with the exemplary Blue Horizon Records label
and although largely unadventurous, their albums offered a highly
competent grasp of black music, including both blues and soul.
They provided stellar accompaniment on Lightnin’ Slim's London Gumbo and B.B. King in London

On First Slice, which was produced by Mike Vernon, Pete Wingfield's piano dominates
what is a pretty typical blues record. It includes some "revivals" by Percy Mayfield
(River's Invitation and Never Say No) and Bobby Bland (I Pity The Fool and I've Got To Forget You),
but all the other tracks were written by Wingfield. There are some instrumentals
(Chairman Mao's Boogaloo, Boogie Sandwich and No Bzag Just Facts)
and some classic blues numbers like Rusty Blade and No One Else.
However, the stand out track is Evening, an over seven minute long slow blues number with a good melody line,
strong vocals and guitar and some string arrangement...(Tapestry of Delights)
