ACCORDING TO THE INDIVIDUAL WE ACQUIRED THIS ITEM FROM, THIS LP ALBUM COMES FROM THE ESTATE OF A WELL-KNOWN DOWNBEAT MAGAZINE REVIEWER (THE SELLER WOULD NOT REVEAL HIS IDENTITY).  WHILE WE WERE UNABLE TO EXTRACT THE NAME OF THE REVIEWER IN QUESTION,  WE ARE CONVINCED THAT THE PERSON IS NONE OTHER THAN THE LEGENDARY JAZZ GURU ►NAT HENTOFF, BEING THAT THE ITEM WAS ACQUIRED WITHIN WEEKS FROM HIS PASSING (JANUARY 2017) AND MOST LIKELY AS A RESULT OF HIS ESTATE LIQUIDATION. WHAT IS REMARKABLE ABOUT THIS AND OTHER ITEMS COMING FROM THE SAME SOURCE (WHICH ARE ALL PROMOTIONAL ITEMS OR REVIEWER COPIES) - IS INCREDIBLE STATE OF PRESERVATION. Southern Hospitality was originally issued in 1954 as a 10" eight-track LP under the title Warm. Three years later, a 12" LP was released with an additional four titles. This session was a setting Southern preferred, herself on piano along with a small group, as she is joined by guitar player Dave Barbour and his trio. Barbour already was experienced in backing other singers of the era, such as June Christy and his wife Peggy Lee. This album also established Southern's predilection to include less familiar material on her albums, a characteristic which was to be one hallmark of her career. Tunes like "Miss Johnson Phoned Again Today" and "I'm in Love With the Honorable Mr. So-and-So" permit Southern to showcase her ability to transform a song into a very personal recitation of a tale that is, if not sorrowful, then at least melancholy. "It Never Entered My Mind" and her lovely rendition of "Ev'ry Time We Say Goodbye" stand out among a tasteful selection of standards.The second album is somewhat of a shift in tempo and style, exhibiting Southern's ability to work with medium tempo material. Finding a pink label promo of this title ?!?! Forget it – not even a HOPE!!! This may be the last one you will ever see.

·       THE RECORD

(a)          THE VINYL IS ABSOLUTELY, PERFECTLY MINT,  as if never played before. The original luster is totally intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles like brand new. The labels look perfect, simply gorgeous, with absolutely no trace of wear around the spindle hole. The record is TOTAL PERFECTION - ABSOLUTE VISUAL NIRVANA! We are confident that, in this condition, the record we present here is truly once-in-a-lifetime find.

(b)          The record has a "deep groove" (an indent in the label about 1/2-inch from the edge of the label, which on SOME labels is associated with very early or first pressings).

(c)           This is the original flat-edge pressing

(d)          The record is STILL in its original inner, perforated plastic baggy, which has - apparently with success - shielded the record from the harmful impact of elements over many years!

(e)           The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(f)            Pink Promo Label version of this title is much rarer that a regular, commercially released, version of this title. We estimate that stock copies of this album outnumber promo copies by a ratio of at least 50:1.

(g)          Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·                               THE COVER

THE COVER IS NICE --- ABOUT EXCELLENT OR VERY GOOD++ (VG++).

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-        Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 2  (front side) and 3 (back side)

-        Back cover has circular tarnish (grayish, dust-covered sections, which closely follow the contour of the record),  probably caused by friction or by rubbing against other covers during the storage. The tarnish is similar in appearance to a common ring wear, but, UNLIKE ring wear, these grayish areas may be possible to clean up with a minor effort and with a right cleansing solution.

-        Cover shows some light yellowing on back side, apparently from aging.

-        Minor shelf wear noted on the spine (nothing significant)
