JERRY McGill RARE ROCKABILLY "LOVESTRUCK/ I WANNA MAKE SWEET LOVE" SUN ORIGINAL 1959 NM
Very rare rockabilly hit by Jerry McGill and the Topcoats. This is the original pressing with "Shelton" stamped in the deadwax. Both sides are excellent rockers with lively sax breaks.
Outlaw rockabilly musician Jerry McGill recorded this one single on Sun Records in 1959, and then slipped from a rock' n' roll career into robbing banks and running from the FBI, while touring with legends of country music and appearing in movies. Jerry's early reputation as a key figure in the Memphis music scene was soon overshadowed by his penchant for drugs and crime. He surfaced occasionally, to make brilliant records that never came out, and to prove he was free, albeit on the run.
After three jail sentences (under two different names), aged 70 and suffering from lung cancer, he announced his return to recording. Jerry died in June, 2013 at the age of 73. His documentary, "Very Extremely Dangerous", was released on DVD by Fat Possum (Ryko) on November 24, 2014.
