RARE early UK pressing of Jess Roden`s eponymously-titled solo debut "Jess Roden", released on Island Records (1974).
Eric Burdon, Joe Cocker, Van Morrison, Jess Roden. Jess Roden? Of all the great vocalists of UK rock`s "golden era", Jess Roden is surely the most under-appreciated of them all. And yet, he was one of the very finest among them - and surely the most refined.
After providing marvellous vocals for the psychedelic pop and, later, harder-hitting brassed-up soul of Alan Bown`s various bands, as well as the countrified soft-rockers Bronco, Jess Roden embarked on his solo career with a bang. Produced by New Orleans maestro Allen Toussaint himself and featuring The Meters on a majority of tracks, "Jess Roden" was released to uniformly excellent reviews. The album features an absolutely stunning version of Leiber and Stoller`s classic "On Broadway" - and that`s just for starters.
GRADING:
EX++ COVER with slight storage wear. Please see photos for details.
- Original "pinched" spine with slight scuffing and a few tiny creases.
- Superficial corner crease (at bottom right).
- Also includes the customised, cream-coloured Island inner sleeve in MINT(-) condition. Only original UK pressings came with cream (not white) inner sleeves.
MINT(-) RECORD with no signs of ever having been played.
- Custom-printed Island labels in near-perfect condition, with a single, near-invisible spindle line.
- The matrix stamps in the run-off grooves read "ILPS 9286 A-2 U" and "ILPS 9286 B-3 U", respectively.
PLEASE NOTE: Not to be compared with the more-often-than-not substandard vinyl on offer on eBay, this item is in honestly-graded MINT(-) condition: You will not find another copy of "Jess Roden" as nice as this one - especially at this bargain price. "True value for money" is the motto here!
