JESS WILLARD 45 with Eddie Cochran / Hank Cochran / Cliffie Stone / etc.
"EVERY DOG HAS HIS DAY" backed with "DON’T HOLD HER SO CLOST"
EKKO RECORDS # 1018
Mega Rare monster Country Rockabilly 45 from 1955, featuring an incredible group of musicians:
- EDDIE COCHRAN - Lead Guitar
- HANK COCHRAN – Guitar
- JESS WILLARD – Vocal
- CLIFFIE STONE – Bass
- UNIDENTIFIED MUSICIANS - Steel Guitar, Fiddle, Piano, and Drums
We have included a sound clip from each side of this 45 below- it is a remarkable record and has some shades of early country sound (which reminds us of Hank Williams), while Eddie and Hank Cochran add an unmistakable dose of originality to both sides. Willard also toured with the Cochran Brothers in 1955, joining them for a number of California Hayride Shows. Willard died four years later, in 1959, of a heart attack at age 43.
This 45 has a WHITE LABEL, which is unusual for the EKKO Label. The other Ekko records we have known of had Blue Labels. Although it does not say Promo anywhere on the label, we wonder if it is an unmarked DJ release. The “A” Side is co-written by Hank Cochran, E. Bloodworth, and B. Wood (Bobby?). The “B” side is co-written by E. Brown and Jess Willard.

The condition of this 45 shows a number of scuffs and scratches, plus a small spot of visible heat wear on the outer edge. The heat spot is mostly on the beginning dead wax, measuring about 1 ½” around the outer lip going barely into the grooves (less than ¼” total, measured from the outer edge of the record). This spot does not affect play at all. This 45 plays all the way through on both sides with no skips or repeats. It does have some noise and ticks, more on the Don't Hold Her So Clost side, but the music is clear and sounds good. If you haven’t played these already, please listen to a sample from both sides above! This is a great, monster rare 45.
We will gladly combine shipping on items purchased from us within a 7 day period to save you money on postage!
This 45 will be packaged between pieces of thick cardboard for mailing.
