Jesse Belvin, who was the lead vocalist of the legendary doo-wop group The Penguins, and responsible for some of the finest vocal harmonies known to man, had a voice that was pure heaven. He could have been bigger than Elvis and Jackie Wilson combined had he lived, but fate had other plans. Belvin was killed in a car crash just days before this, his second and final, album was to be released to the grieving public. And the album is a telling testimony of his talent and great, melismatic voice that comes only once in a generation (Thank God for Sam Cooke, who was a more than a capable replacement for Jesse Belvin).
***
Some would argue that this album isn't really representative of Jesse Belvin's sound, coming at the very end of his life so that he couldn't follow it up and displaying a final mix that he never got to hear. But Mr. Easy is about as fine an album as any R&B singer ever cut in search of a mainstream audience and ought to be in every '50s vocal collection. Anyone who owns even one Sam Cooke album should make it his or her business to buy it, and nobody who enjoys Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, or Billy Eckstine would be doing wrong, either. No, his voice wasn't as rich as Sinatra or Cooke's at either's best, but he knew how to use it, and he went further with this material than anybody had a right to, straddling the worlds of soul and popular music magnificently. By itself, the closing number, "The Very Thought of You," is worth the price of the disc, and isn't much easier to listen to than Cooke's "A Change Is Gonna Come," even if it is a very different kind of song

"RCA Living Stereo" recordings - mostly classical, but also a handful of pop and easy listening titles - were made under the supervision of the most knowledgeable technicians and engineers on earth. The sound is simply amazing. On mint or near mint copies , quiet passages are so quiet - and the surface noise so conspicuously absent - that you will not even realize that your stylus has hit the surface of the record until the music starts. The highs are high, and the lows are very low. You are going to need a subwoofer and a hypersensitive tweeter to express some of these tonal ranges appropriately. This is the music for the ears, heart, soul, mind and guts alike.
THIS IS A NO-RESERVE AUCTION!

CONDITION:
RECORD
(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)
(a) WE GRADE THE VINYL AS NEAR MINT. Some VERY LIGHT AND SUPERFICIAL abrasions – mostly sleeve scuffs - are (barely) visible, but are probably inaudible, and do not affect visual integrity or beauty of the vinyl. The original luster is very much intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.
(b) The record has a "deep groove" (an indent in the label about 1/2-inch from the edge of the label, which on SOME labels is associated with very early or first pressings).
(c) Stereo pressing of this title is much rarer, and by far more preferable to its mono counterpart. The mix is more graphic, the sound resolution more precise, and the channel separation (which does not exist on mono version) adds a whole new dimension to the music. Also, the stereo mixes are (by definition) somewhat different than on the mono version. We estimate that mono copies of this album outnumber stereo copies by a ratio of at least 5:1.
(d) The record comes in a poly-lined stock inner sleeve, which has - apparently with success - shielded the vinyl from the harmful impact of elements over many years!
(e) The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!
(f) Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!
