This original recording (released before the show was ever staged) has a rock flavour that is very different from Webber's later work.
This is due in part to the emotive singing of Murray Head and Ian Gillan and the playing of well-known rock session musicians.
The musical arrangements are often multi-layered (with synthesisers and effects), featuring rock and classical elements, and contain many abruptly shifting dynamics and progressive time signatures. This is the definitive version of the work

No evident spindle traces or any sign the records have ever been played
