JETHRO TULL A Passion Play UK LP 1st Pressing A-4U B-4U + Theatre booklet
This LP is one of several Jethro Tull and Yes LP’s I am currently listing on ebay and the vast majority are in stunning MINT condition. They are true archive examples of these great albums and it would be virtually impossible to find better copies than these anywhere.

JETHRO TULL A Passion Play. UK Chrysalis CHR 1040. This is an original UK 1st pressing on the Green Chrysalis Label with correct first pressing matrix of A-4U B-4U only found on the initial copies manufactured at release in 1973. PLEASE NOTE that A-4U B-4U IS THE EARLIEST AND FIRST MATRIX SET FOR THIS RELEASE!!
The record is housed in its original un-laminated sleeve and comes complete with its original “Linwell Theatre” programme which has been correctly stored away in the semi circular slot made specifically for this purpose.
Sleeve: EXCELLENT
The outer sleeve is in excellent condition. Overall the sleeve is in really great shape, and any defects are relatively minor. There are a couple of light creases on the front cover towards the opening edge which are only visible when held up to the light at a certain angle.
The back cover has a very very small amount of ring wear at the very bottom of the cover and a small blemish in the top left where the surface has come away measuring about 6mm by 4mm. As this is against a pink background it isn’t particularly unsightly, particularly in view of its very small size.
The spine is very clean and undamaged, as is the top edge. The bottom edge has a tiny amount of rubbing in one small isolated area.
Overall a really nice condition sleeve with a few relatively minor condition points, but nothing terrible and overall the sleeve has a generally unworn feel to it, it is rigid, sharp and remains intact with no seam splits or unsightly marks.
Inner Sleeve: EXCELLENT +
Generic and original plain patented Inner sleeve. A few minor creases, fully intact and unmarked.
Insert : “The Linwell Theatre” booklet / Programme : NEAR MINT
A superb unworn copy of the booklet is present within this first pressing of this LP.
The programme has clearly been handled carefully and only a minimal number of times. All pages are clean and bright with absolutely no discolouration or marks whatsoever.
There is a feint semi circular impression caused by its being housed in the specially cut out slot in the gatefold sleeve, and there is also really feint signs of having been looking through, but it is really superb condition and not very far off being mint.
Vinyl: (LP) NEAR MINT
The vinyl is in Near Mint condition. The record looks to have had just a minimal number of plays. Beautiful deep black gloss on this pressing and the record weighs in at fairly heavy 148g on my scales. There are a few very very feint hairlines visible when held up to my LED halogen light (which is incredibly revealing!). A really super piece of heavyweight first pressing vinyl.
Matrix No’s:
Side A: CHR 1040 A-4U L R
Side B: CHR 1040 B-4U T R
I inspect all records under a very bright halogen lamp that reveals all marks and wear and I make my grading based only on what is visible under these conditions.
Labels: NEAR MINT
The labels are totally clean and unmarked. When held at a certain angle I can see one spindle mark around the hole on the A side, which isn’t noticeable when viewed straight on, but as I grade conservatively then I will grade as Near Mint.
Postage and Packing
All records have been placed in a separate poly lined inner and stored flat outside the sleeve and then placed sealed in a re-sealable polythene outer prior to shipping. Records are then placed between square cardboard sheets before packaging into cruciform mailers especially designed for LP’s
