Description
I am parting with some of my treasured LPs. Jethro Tull's Stand Up LP is a great effort by an amazing young band that took the influences of British folk, and combined Ian Anderson's flute instrumentals in a late 60's way where all British Invasion bands were taking from American blues. It would have been unthinkable before him, but Ian Anderson fronting a rock band with a flute was just the beginning of a trend into art rock and progressive rock, where instrumentation and virtuosity would be as important as the music itself. Stand Up may be Tull's finest album, it's certainly filled with his standards that would remain in his live repertoire. In fact, one of the greatest LPs of the time, and remains timeless.
This copy is an original UK pressing from 1969 on the PINK ISLAND I LABEL. This LP is the 3rd pressing which has the white I on the label. It was from 1969 as well as the solid pink label pressings, but due to larger than expected initial sales Island had to do 2 additional press runs in 1969. This copy plays in EXCELLENT CONDITION. The cover is beautiful, the rear cover shows slight sign of ring wear from record pressing against it. The spine is beautiful, but at the very bottom and very top has some small fraying. The inside gatefold is MINT and stands up perfectly. Labels are perfect, and the LP plays beautifully, with the very slightest of occasional background sound. These early UK pressings are the way to go with UK bands like this. These pressings are highly desirable, and worth every penny. They are also increasingly more difficult to come by in respectable condition. This is a killer copy.
