Another from my personal collection of over 50,00 Uk albums that I have collected over a period of 45 years or more!. This is an early original UK pressing of Jethro Tull's studio album "Stand Up" released in 1969 on the Island labels in the UK. This is the 2nd Label variation that was released for a very limited time and was soon superceded by the solid pink Island labels.  It is noted that this album is listed for it's colectability rathan for its condition. The album has general wear and tear with age. I have played and recorded the vinyl and the audio is very enjoyable throughout there was no distortion and in general the audio is extremely clear and vibrant. Clicks and pops were noted in some places but there is no skips or jumps. This 50 year old album is very collectable and sought after and a great collectable to add to someones collection in my opinion!

Stand Up is the second album by Jethro Tull. Prior to this album, the band's original guitarist Mick Abrahams had left the band due to musical differences with Ian Anderson.

Abrahams wanted to stay with the blues-rock sound of This Was, while Anderson wished to branch out into other musical forms!

 

 

Stand Up represents the first album project on which Anderson was in full control of the music and lyrics.

The album goes in a different direction from his earlier work, revealing influences from Celtic music, folk and classical music.

The instrumental "Bourée" (one of Jethro Tull's better-known songs) is a re-working of "Bourrée in E minor" by J.S.Bach!

 

 

The album reached #1 on the British charts. The gatefold album cover, in a woodcut style designed by artist James Grashow, originally opened up similar to a child's pop-up book, so that a cut-out of the band's personnel stood up !

The Vinyl
This vinyl is the original thick slab of vinyl only found like this on the earliest pressings. There are surface marks/scratches noted but nothing that would cause any skips or jumps. any other marks would be sleeve removal only.

The Audio Quality
I have play tested the vinyl two times on two different turntables/systems at very loud volume prior to this listing. Once for you to hear the complete album. (Can be heard in the player above)
The audio is clear and very vibrant throughout. It is noted that there was some isolated clicks and pops during the play but overall I would say the audio is excellent and very enjoyable throughout without distortion and no skips or jumps.

Please allow for isolated static type crackle/ticks/pop that might be noticed in quieter places and perhaps during the main audio, but not consistent through out the audio. Debrit was noted on the playing surface after play. A constant clean before each play is recommended because this vinyl has been stored in a case laying dormant for over 45 years. A build up of dirt and dust in the grooves causes static ticks/ crackle. constant cleaning before each play will reduce this and enhance the audio quality.
 
The Labels
These are the original 1st UK issue Island 'Black Block' labels variation. Only released for a very limited time. Spidering can be seen angled to the light, this has obviously been played but not overplayd in my personal opinion.

The Record Sleeve
This is the plain white poly lined sleeve. Light creasing/staining with age.

The Cover
This is the original 1st UK issue Un laminated 'Pop Up' cover. There are no edge splits or tears. There is general wear and tear with age and rubbing wear noted at the edges and spine but in general this is strong and straight. The rear is very slightly grubby and i notice a feint pen mark at the rear. Still this is the original 1st UK issue!
Overall this album is a very playable and enjoyable copy to own and a very collectable and scarce label variation over 50 years old!
