Machined First UK press matrices:  ILPS 9145 A-3U and ILPS 9145 B-2U. The earliest possible issue and according to the mother stampers ("GG" and "R") this copy is one of the very first issued in the first few days.  It has the white "I" on the top of the label. Later issues do not have this feature. The earliest mother stampers and "Porky and Pecko" etched into the run out grooves.

Thick as a Brick is the fifth studio album by Jethro Tull. Released in 1972, the album includes only one song, the title track, which spans the entire album. Thick as a Brick was deliberately crafted in the style of a concept album. The original packaging, designed like a newspaper, claims the album to be a musical adaptation of an epic poem by a (fictional) 8-year-old boy, though the lyrics were actually written by the band's frontman, Ian Anderson.

Thick as a Brick was Jethro Tull's first deep progressive rock offering, coming four years after the release of their first album. The epic album is notable for its many musical themes, time signature changes and tempo shifts—all of which were features of the progressive rock scene which was emerging at the time. In addition, the instrumentation includes harpsichord, xylophone, timpani, violin, lute,trumpet, saxophone, and a string section—all uncommon in blues-based rock.

Band leader Ian Anderson was surprised by the critical reaction to the previous album, Aqualung, as a "concept album", a label he firmly rejects to this day. Ian Anderson has been quoted as stating that Thick as a Brick was written "because everyone was saying we were a progressive rock band, so we decided to live up to the reputation and write a progressive album, but done as a parody of the genre."  The formula was successful, and the album reached number one on the charts in the United States.

On offer here is a VERY rare LP  by JETHRO TULL and is an ORIGINAL 1972 UK 1st Pressing on the 1st Press CHRYSALIS label with Island credits in white on the label!!!!  THIS LP IS SERIOUSLY RARE AND VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND!!!!   AS A RESULT IT IS SERIOUSLY RARE AND INCREDIBLY HARD TO LOCATE TODAY!!!!    JUST TAKE A LOOK AT THE PICTURES!!!!

Gimmix Gatefold Sleeve: VG+/EX.  A supreme gatefold sleeve which has been cared for throughout its lifetime and is now 47 years old.  I have never come across a better example of this album throughout my time collecting prog and psych, now for over 30 years. Extremely hard to find this sleeve without any issues. All pages are fully intact. This one is simply splendid with hardly any issues at all. Beautifully textured without any creases. Just one light scuff near the bottom opening corner. The spine is a delight to observe as is the newspaper itself which is also splendid. Light age related yellowing spots here and there. Light edge wear from storage. If you do have a bit of time on your hand you should read through some of the news articles which are quite hilarious. The crossword and dot-to-dot have not been filled. It is just as good as it gets!  This will be a great upgrade copy for most prog collectors.

Vinyl:  EX.  Both surfaces retain their original deep, glossy sheen. A SUPERB VINYL COPY !!! Only lightly played by a careful owner. There are a couple of the usual sleeve retraction paper traces which are not feelable and do not sound.  The record still sounds out of this world and this is of course Tull at their very pinnacle, a proper classic album.
 Outstanding audio delivery in all respects with a crystal clear, deep, rich, warm and detailed sound and on playback at a loud volume (which is how I always listen to my LPs prior to listing and it's always an immense pleasure to return to this one) there is barely any surface noise. This is a beautifully clean pressing (and I must emphasise again how difficult it is to find a copy which plays this well).  The whole LP sounds absolutely stunning and plays to an extremely high standard with superb clarity, no groove-wear and no distortion and is very strictly graded a strong EX  for replay  - great copy!! Of course, NO skips, NO jumps, NO ticks.

The original inner lyric sleeve is still present with the correct two flipbacks. It has a small seam split to one side.
