Jethro Tull's first LP-length epic is a masterpiece in the annals of progressive rock, and one of the few works of its kind that still holds up decades later.
Mixing hard rock and English folk music with classical influences, set to stream-of-consciousness lyrics so dense with imagery that one might spend weeks pondering their meaning -- assuming one feels the need to do so -- the group created a dazzling tour de force, at once playful, profound, and challenging, without overwhelming the listener.
The original LP was the best-sounding, best-engineered record Tull had ever released, easily capturing the shifting dynamics between the soft all-acoustic passages and the electric rock crescendos surrounding them

Clean, bright and fresh with less than a handful of light spindle traces on Side Two and none at all that I can see on Side One
VINYL Visual: EXCELLENT++
Both surfaces retain their original deep glossy sheen and are practically unmarked
VINYL Audio: EXCELLENT/EXCELLENT(+)
This is one of finest albums in the Tull catalogue in terms of production and engineering and these first presses sound absolutely sensational.
My play-check at very loud volume revealed no major audio issues of note but there some (non-continuous) clicks on the acoustic intro to Side One (and again during some of the other quiet sections) but no scratches or any other audible distractions and in my opinion this is a mighty fine playing copy - actually one of the best I have heard in a long, long while and personally these slight imperfections didn't bother me at all - it was a real pleasure to return to this wonderful album
NEWSPAPER SLEEVE: EXCELLENT+
The original (EJ DAY) newspaper sleeve is very delicate it is virtually impossible to find it in decent condition anymore but this one has held up remarkably well. There is some (not unexpected) yellowing to the inner pages but otherwise, it is clean and unmarked and the crossword and join-the-dots puzzles are not filled in. All text on the spine is also clear and crisp (which is pretty rare)
