JETHRO TULL This As A Brick UK LP 1st Press A-3U B-2U Stunning Archive MINT!
This LP is one of several Jethro Tull LP’s I am currently listing on ebay and the vast majority of these are in stunning MINT condition. They are true archive examples of these great albums and it would be virtually impossible to find better copies than these anywhere.
Please check out my other auctions to view the other great titles in MINT condition I am currently offering on ebay.
Up for sale here:
JETHRO TULL ~ Thick As A Brick. Chrysalis CHR 1003. This is an original 1st pressing on the Green Chrysalis Label with white “i” logo complete with all the correct features of a true 1st pressing of this LP.
Many of you will already know that the Pink Rim variation of this LP which often sells for substantial sums, and which is indeed rare, is not actually the true first pressing of this LP. Those first pressings were Green Chrysalis label copies with the white “i” logo and A-3U and B-2U matrix numbers, complete with the full foldout newspaper sleeve which are all present here on this stunning example.
The original 1st pressing of this LP being auctioned here is nothing short of breathtaking. When I first saw this LP I immediately thought, based purely on its condition, that it had to be a later re-press. How wrong I was!! On closer examination this LP is just an incredibly MINT original “time capsule” copy. The sheer whiteness and condition of the sleeve and spine are utterly amazing.
Nearly all copies I see of this LP have the newspaper sleeve looking grubby to some extent and they are also often frayed on the spine. Many copies just fall apart. The materials used in this sleeve, whilst providing a great effect in making this look like a newspaper, were delicate and of a softer paper type than normal in order to give it such a matt effect finish.
What is also so fantastic about this LP is that it has single letter mother stampers making also one of the very first copies of this LP to be manufactured! The mother stampers of H and L indicate that this copy came from the 7th and 8th mother for side A / B respectively (per the EMI pressing sequence GRAMOPHLTD) . Incredible early copy when you think that typically even in the first 2-3 years of manufacture at least 100+ mothers were often used for LP’s such as these, if not more than this.
Please read the full description below carefully. I truly believe that as a collector of 20 years experience, I am offering an LP here that you will never see such a stunning original example of again!
This LP is part of a small quantity of Tull LP’s I am auctioning where the condition is quite simply outstanding. It is rare that I can say “this LP is as good as the day it left the factory” – but in this instance it is true!!!
Overall condition: MINT
Sleeve: MINT
The outer sleeve is in fantastic mint condition. It is absolutely stunning. All edges are razor sharp and unworn. The front and back covers have no marks, creases or damage of any consequence whatsoever. The sleeve is in phenomenal condition, extremely white and bright cover.
There is one incredibly small indentation in the top edge of the sleeve which is so small it actually makes no difference – and I say this as a discerning collector myself who like to find things in top condition. I find I cannot change my grading of MINT on such a small point alone, but I am advising it purely because it is the only incredibly minor point to make about this sleeve. Most copies would be have been purchased in this condition with one or two extremely superficial marks – just as this record now stands, but of course this is 2014 -some 42 years later!!
I have carefully opened the newspaper up and I can confirm there is no damage or marks inside of the paper itself, the staples used to hold the sleeve together are bright and clean and have not rusted in any way.
Inner Sleeve: MINT-
The generic white inner is present, this has very mild signs of natural ageing around the edges, but the inner itself is fully intact and is virtually crease free and lies beautifully flat as a result.
Vinyl: (LP) MINT
The vinyl is in stunning Mint condition. The record looks to have had a maximum of about 1-2 plays and is in really fabulous condition. I cannot find any areas of wear at all, visually the record is absolutely stunning.
The vinyl is very thick and weighs in at a heavy 152g. The record has an extremely deep sheen which is almost mirror like and has clearly been played hardly at all and then looked after extremely well by the previous owner.
Matrix No’s:
Side A: CHR 1003 A-3U 1 H Porky
Side B: CHR 1003 B-2U 1 L Pecko
Very Low mother stampers – H and L (6th and 7th respectively!!)
I inspect all records under a very bright halogen lamp that reveals all marks and wear and I make my grading based only on what is visible under these conditions.
Labels: MINT
All labels to both records are in mint condition. The labels are totally clean and unmarked
Other Tull LP’s for auction:
This LP has come from the private collection of an individual who has cared for these records incredibly well and most have hardly been played at all!
They are about the best condition LP’s from the 1970’s; 80’s and 90’s that I have ever come across and include mainly original first pressings plus a few later re-pressings.
Don’t miss this unique opportunity to own some of the highest graded examples of these LP’s. These auctions all end on 23 February 2014. Please check my other auctions to see the other MINT condition LP’s I have for sale from this collection.

All records have been placed in a separate poly lined inner and stored flat outside the sleeve and then placed sealed in a re-sealable polythene outer prior to shipping. Records are then placed between square cardboard sheets before packaging into cruciform mailers especially designed for LP’s
