ONE OF THE LAST SIGNED RECORDS AUTOGRAPHED BY JIM REEVES
This record was signed by Jim for an acquaintance of mine. Actually, for his father at the time. This was done quite late in Jim's short career, for his untimely death would not long follow. This is the last studio recording Jim did for the RCA CAMDEN label. He went 'on strike' shortly thereafter, refusing to record anything for RCA. He did not start recording again until almost mid-year in 1964! What an unfortunate occurrence for us die-hard Jim Reeves fans! When Jim did return to the studio, his recording time was cut short by his death in the July 31st,1964 plane crash. The crash that also took the life of Jim's band leader and pianist Dean Manuel. Jim had releases on the Camden label prior to this but most songs were from early in his RCA recording career. This country music masterpiece truly reflects the smooth baritone voice we all revere and love so well. Returning to the studio is the sound of the steel guitar and absent are the string orchestrations from other later releases. Staying within the true country sound and offering stripped down background accompaniment to allow Jim's voice to be ever stronger in the forefront. Not to mention, staying within a stricter budget in the vane of the Camden label releases. Ah, but I regress....
JACKET Condition: Least we forget it's all about the autograph here, let's outline the jacket condition. JACKET FRONT is in very strong condition but was obviously stored without plastic protective covering. Because of this, we are starting to see signs of ring wear however, all-in-all the front is a strong VG+ condition. The JACKET BACK is black print against a white background and the ring wear is more evident than the front. However, still a favorable showing. The three edges show stress and bumps but splitting is still in the future.
WAX Condition: The wax was well cared for and when played, was played on a quality turntable (I would expect nothing less from you, Ron!). Very little spindle wear, so depth perception was not an issue here. (LOL). There are no apparent scratches however, there is scuffing from sliding the record in and out of the cardboard jacket (Camden did not include paper sleeves with their records). I WILL include a sleeve for your benefit and the further protection of the wax. All-in-all the record should play with minimal background noise as the luster and shine remain strong on this LP.
This is an excellent addition to your Jim Reeves (or any!) record collection! This is a 1st production release! As evidenced by the wax label! Check it out if you have doubts.
I have been a JIM REEVES Collector since 1969 (a fan for even longer) and it's time for me to part with some of my items. My loss is your gain!
