Description
Here for auction is an exceptional example of the iconic first album by JIMI HENDRIX titled “ARE YOU EXPERIENCED”, Catalogue Number 612 001. This is an ORIGINAL 1967 *UK MONO 1st PRESSING* on the TRACK RECORD LABEL, with the earliest Av1, Bv1 Matrix Numbers and 1st issue front-laminated E. J. Day sleeve with ‘Patent Pending’ text on the back cover.
The *1st issue* front-laminated single sleeve, printed and made by Ernest J. Day & Co. Ltd. London, is in EX condition (strictly graded) with only the lightest of wear. There are three tiny white spots to the top left front corner and some rubbing to the text on the ultra-thin spine. You can see from the photos that this is a beautiful sleeve which should please most collectors.
The top quality Track record retains a deep mirror-like shine and sits flat and true on the turntable. It is a nice weighty pressing with a square-cut rim edge.
The full Matrix Numbers and stampers are:
Side 1 – 612001 Av1 1 3 1 5
Side 2 – 612001 Bv1 1 1 0 2
Both sides are visually in EX condition, with the exception of a noticeable surface scuff mark on Track 3 of Side 2. This is purely superficial and does not cause any audio problems (no clicks). The matt black Track labels are unmarked with only a few faint spindle traces near the centres. There is virtually no wear around the spindle hole which still retains plastic flashing on the inside. I am confident that the record has not been played many times.
PLAYGRADE ASSESSMENT:
This is a particularly raw and vibrant mono pressing which sounds sensational played at loud volume. The record plays perfectly. All frequencies are crystal clear and there is no discernable deterioration in sound quality. There are no pops or loud clicks and barely any unwanted noise at all. You simply will not find a significantly better playing copy of this wonderful album!
Complete with the original white poly-lined inner sleeve which is also in EX condition. This has “British Patent No…” and “MADE IN ENGLAND 048” text in blue print at the bottom. There is a music shop stamp in one corner.
GRADINGS
The records that I offer for sale have been critically play-graded, at loud volume, on a Rega Planar 3 turntable fitted with an Elys 2 cartridge. I will only sell records that play to a high standard. My gradings are strict and in accordance with the following descriptions:
· MINT- Record is superb, almost like new, with just a few sleeve removal type surface marks and no deterioration in sound quality. Sleeve is near perfect in all respects.
· EX Record is a top quality example, with just a few very light surface marks which do not sound, and barely any discernable deterioration in sound quality. Sleeve has slight wear and/or creasing.
· VG+ Record has some visual surface marks, but still plays to a high standard without any major deterioration in sound quality – just a few clicks or light surface sound in places. Sleeve has normal wear and tear without any major defects. Still a very presentable sleeve.
PACKAGING & POSTAGE
Records are sent out in new “Wrapro” record mailers. These are rectangular and strong, providing excellent protection to the edges and corners. Records are removed from both inner and outer sleeves in order to prevent seam-splits in transit.
