This is a rare 1st UK pressing of surely the best debut album ever!
VINYL
Visually, the vinyl is stunning. Clean, glossy and under normal strong daylight, absolutely flawless. Under stronger UV light, there are some very light surface scratches from the original poly-lined sleeve.
Sonically, the album plays as good as it looks. It is LOUD and clear and just fantastic! There are NO skips, pops or crackles - except for the run-ins/outs, where there is a little background noise, which is 100% expected with such an old LP. There are a few instances of background noise between some of the tracks, which, again, is normal for old records. We listened to both sides with headphones, and can't find any faults. For an LP this old, and popular, we think it is amazing.
The grading has to be EXCELLENT PLUS
COVER
The classic front cover still retains its glossy laminate. The laminate does have some creases (see pic 2), but, for its age, this is to be expected. The creases are in the laminate, as the card underneath is very well kept and shows very little wear.
The four corners are very slightly scuffed (no more than 1mm in length/width), the top right corner having a 2mm lifting of the laminate to show the grey card beneath.
There is the lightest of indented ringwear in certain lights - which we feel obliged to mention.
The rear cover is, again, excellent. There is no writing, no rips or sticker residue. It is clean and bright with some very mild discoloration to the edges.
It says: "Printed and made by Ernest J. Day & Co. Ltd., London, W.1. Patent Pending"
The edges are nice and straight, with no major issues. The bottom edge has some very light scuffing - but it is very minor.
The spine, though clean and uncreased, is a little worn and hard to read, but that is common with such a narrow spine and small text.
Overall, this cover is graded as EXCELLENT MINUS.
LABELS
Fabulous.
Side 1 is clean, bright and has no writing, rips, sticker damage or scuffs. There are five light 'lines' around the spindle hole from being played. It looks as though it has been played VERY little - maybe 3 or 4 times (one of those by me!). 612 001 Av1.
Side 2 is similar - clean and with no damage and the same amount of spindle wear. One of the lines made by a spindle has a deeper indent than the others, but it is still an exceptional label.
612 001 Bv1 (There is a crossed out A between the v and the 1)
The labels must be graded as EXCELLENT PLUS.
Both sides have the double-ridge indented labels.
ALL IN ALL, THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL EXAMPLE - THE ONLY NEGATIVE BEING SOME CREASING TO THE LAMINATE AND A FADED SPINE.
