Description
Up for auction is a rare, original pressing of the Jimi Hendrix album "Band Of Gypsys" originally released in the U.S. on Capitol Records (STAO-472) in 1970. This is a guaranteed, original First U.S. Pressing, not a reissue, import, or record club pressing like most for sale on eBay. Includes original gatefold cover. Vinyl is stored in protective audiophile inner sleeve.
This is an original 1st pressing with the correct 1st pressing Green Capitol Label, with the correct deep groove indentations around the spindle holes. Later pressings do not have the deep grooves. Cover does not have the Capitol "Gold Record" stamp that later pressings have.
Also has the important "RL" etching in the run-out matrix, indicating that this is an original Robert Ludwig recording, which is far superior in sound quality. Also has the "Sterling" sound etching.

Condition: The cover is in very good condition in comparison to most copies. These matte finished covers were very prone to wear, and this one shows some light rubbing loss and light ring wear, as you can see from the photos, but still well-preserved. Corners are sharp, not bumped, with light rubbing loss. Seams are strong and intact, no seam splits like most copies. Edges show some rubbing. Spine is strong, not creased, not faded. Interior of gatefold is clean and bright, very nice. Back cover has the number "28" written on it in upper right corner (see photos). Overall, though, still an attractive cover, better than most. Grade it an easy Very Good Plus (VG+).
The vinyl is also in very nice condition, still retains its original high glossy shine. Some very light, superficial hairlines on both faces, but nothing serious. Labels are clean and bright, no marks around spindle holes indicating that this record has not been played much previously. Run-out grooves are clean and shiny. Overall, a very nice looking record with only light signs of previous handling, well-preserved original. Grade the vinyl Very Good Plus Plus (VG++). Not a perfect copy, but you can't beat it for the price.
