You are bidding on a near mint double vinyl copy of Electric Ladyland by the iconic Jimi Hendrix. This copy was a Polydor release in a gatefold sleeve, and is in amazing condition. Whilst accepting that this album is not an early copy, (I believe this to be a 1973 reissue) its condition makes it truly desirable. The outer sleeve is as close to mint condition that you will get with NO damage to the spine whatsoever. The vinyl is in amazing clean scratch free condition, although there were some minor crackles during playback. The generic plain white inners do show some signs of discolouration and one of them is a little crumpled.

This is the UK release with the original cover photo of a group of nude women which proved controversial enough to be subsequently replaced by an illustration of the guitarist's face. As was common with some multi-LP albums, sides A and D were pressed back to back on the same platter, likewise sides B and C, and this auto-coupling or automatic sequence is the case here as it was intended to make it easier to play through the entire album in sequence on automatic record-changers.

Within two hectic years James Marshall Hendrix had gone from playing Greenwich Village nightclubs for food money to unofficial head freak of the Underground. Two albums of short sharp psychedelic class had alerted the public not only to his Strat-mangling prowess, but also his innate grasp of great song writing. After two landmark albums of the psychedelic era, Hendrix reached new heights of creativity with the incredible double as it blew all of the competition out of the water .The scope of this album is stunning; so far reaching, and that it was released as a double LP set was something that was fairly new at the time.

‘Electric Ladyland’ was first released in the U.S. in September 1968 and became a massive hit; it was Hendrix's only #1 album. The UK edition reached #6 upon its release amid considerable controversy. A letter Hendrix wrote to the record label described exactly what he wanted for the cover, but it was mostly ignored. The company Experience Hendrix, which owns the rights to the album and most of Hendrix's catalogue, has stated that the original UK nudes cover will not be used any longer, since Hendrix himself did not like it.

This was the third and final Jimi Hendrix Experience release and is seen as the peak of Hendrix's mastery of the guitar. Released as a album, this is a cross-section of Hendrix's wide range of musical talent, including examples of several genres and styles of music including classics like ‘Crosstown Traffic’, ’Voodoo Chile’ and a classic cover version of Bob Dylan‘s ‘All Along The Watchtower’. The album spawned five UK Top 40 singles making it arguably the best studio album the Experience produced in their brief career.

If it's true that songwriters have a vision in their head of what their dream album would be, ‘Electric Ladyland’ was the project Hendrix hoped would be as close to perfection as possible. No longer content with the rush-recorded psychedelic pop-rock of previous releases, this album was an exploration of what could be achieved with time, money and experience so it is difficult to pick a standout piece as the quality of the album is so high throughout.

MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

FAIR: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump.
The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.
