GOODBYE, JIMI

Side One tracks 1/2 were recorded professionally live in concert during the very early Experience days at Liverpool. These two plus Dylan's 'Like A Rolling Stone' were originally planned as a live E.P. which was never released.  Tracks 3/4 were recorded direct from Lulu's TV show. Halfway through 'Hey Joe' he stops the Experience with an amazing comment an leads he group into a fine tribute to the late Cream with 'Sunshine Of Your Love'.   Last on Side One is probably Jimi's finest recording ever, 'Drivin' South' features some incredible and amazing guitar. At one point it sounds like he almost tears his screaming strings off the instrument!  Classic Jimi Hendix which almost certainly was never cut by him other than this obscure recording from John Peel's Top Gear live in 1967/68. 

Side Two opens with a great early classic Experience favourite 'Experiencing The Blues' also from the same Top Gear show. This piece later developed into the title 'Voodoo Chile' complete with different lyrics. Also from the same Top Gear session are 'Hound Dog' and 'Little Miss Lover'. This live version features Hendrix using his wah wah pedal which was not used on the studio take.  Tracks 4/5/6/7 are without vintage Hendrix. Taped direct from the B.B.C. Saturday Club as hosted by Brian Mathews in 1967 these are the first radio recordings ever by the Jimi Hendrix Experience, and the earliest material on this album. 'Hey Joe' is a slightly different version of this song. It features extended guitar playing at the end of the number giving us two guitar solos instead of the usual one. 'Stone Free' brings to an end this album and an era.
