Label Conditions: All four very fresh, clean and attractive with hardly a blemish to the intense red surfaces. Any of the very light spindle marks are very light and faint and without doubt, this superb double set has hardly been played.

Mode / Speed: Stereo / 33.3 rpm.

Warps: Assume all records I offer have no warping of any significance and all tracking is easy and effortless and should play on all turntables and even ‘budget’ decks.

Weight of these Records: 112 / 115 grams. more typical of this pressing.

Rarity: Initially issued on Track records as a double set and also as two single albums. These are now getting harder to find especially in little played conditions and offering top quality sound. The famous ‘Lady’ cover is often dulled, creased and looking shabby and aged. This is an early 70s Polydor repressing that still offers a fully laminated cover and the only real difference being the record labels. Later Polydor copies had matt covers with the laminate removed (to cut costs I guess). I can only apologise not being able to show the supreme beauty of the front and back cover, due the policy of the system I am no longer allowed to. But believe me, both sides look fantastic and almost factory fresh – I have rarely seen this groundbreaking cover look better in fact. The Polydor copies with the laminated cover are not as easy to find as they used to be either and this is really a gorgeous example with sound quality of the cleanest and highest calibre. Both records look hardly played and offer fantastic clean sound. Rarely these days will the Track ones be in fit conditions to state this, many played on less than worthy equipment, no heavy tracking old stylus have ruined with one and with sound of paramount importance to this seller, I would rather offer a near pristine Polydor copy than than a semi-wornout rarer original. If wonderful good looks and pristine sound are your thing too, well look no further, these are fast become scarce too.

Brief Artist & Album Info: The words ‘classic’ and ‘masterpiece’ are two phrases that are often overused, maybe by myself sometimes as I feely admit, but I do not hesitate in using them for this classic masterpiece. A legendary album by the legend that was Jimi Hendrix. Surprisingly it did not top the album charts, peaking at No 6. This was the last proper album with the name Experience following Experienced and Axis. A stunning double set that features some amazing tracks including the long and short versions of ‘Voodoo Chile’, Dylan’s ‘All Along the Watchtower’ and the best for me is the long and quite sublime ‘1983’ which flows into ‘Moon, turn the tides...Gently, gently Away’, gentle and stunning pieces. This album was so ahead of it’s time, the recording is magnificent and the cover is as beautiful as the music, almost certainly one of the most famous sleeves in rock history - this UK version cover was not issued in the US. Such a shame the rules do not allow this gorgeous cover to be shown in full, but look at the stunning centrefold picture of Hendrix, the rest is of similar quality. The inner picture is pure class and must rank as one of the greatest ever pictures in rock history. A simply amazing picture of Jimi in full colour with that green smoky haze rising around him - little sums up this fantastic era in music better than this. As stated above this copy is exceptional with two records that play to perfection and the cover sublime. Although laminated, this does not age well unless well cared for. Creases occur frequently and easily, and with the dark finish they ruin the appearance somewhat as does any major laminate dulling which few seem to avoid. Both records are lovely and look fantastic. I doubt if the cover and records have seen light of day for years and it has been cover protected and the difference will be apparent to any winning bidder. If you need to hear this album sounding as good as it should, well this Polydor version offers just that.

Cover Grade and Format: MINT(-): this being very critical indeed. A fully laminated gatefold format that still includes refence to the long defunct 8 Track Cartridge format. Printed and made in England by Howards.

Laminate – Front & Back: Not being able to show this legendary cover front and back urks me. Anyway both sides look amazing with hardly any blemishes. A couple of tiny ultra fine and faint surface creases on the front and that’s pretty much it. These barely even show and both sides truly do almost remind of new. Superb shine, clarity and freshness with NO lifting or blistering at all. Even with critical viewing under light angled light, there is hardly any traces of friction rubs or dulling and that famous artwork – that was banned in the United States – will rarely be seen better. Lovely rich, dark pictures of the women – it’s such a shame it is deemed necessary to not allow this to be shown on Ebay. This is a cover to hold and enjoy, it will never need upgrading and for stunning good looks, this is nigh-on unbeatable.

Cover Inner Gatefold: Stunning in all respects, close to looking new and just look at that stunning artwork. The laminate is mirror-like and even the foldline hinge has ALL it’s laminate intact, strong and uncracked. How unusual is that? The central hinge is as smooth to the fingertip as when made.

Top & Bottom Edges: All pristine and fully laminated.

Right Edge(s), and Type: Clean, ultra sharp with NO wear and both guaranteed untrimmed. Not even a hint of any burring or thickening. Both sides sees the laminate end quite short of full width as it should, these strips are totally devoid of chipping, grubbiness or fading. Records entered on these edges.

Spine and Text: Simply stunning condition: solid and thicker than some I have seen, straight, uncompressed and square, both right edges meet up perfectly together and parallel. No text was printed on this one but the design follows around and all is perfect and unworn under the solid and uncracked laminate. A vital factor as one of the girl’s faces is seen in the centre of the spine, a crucial factor for those wanting the ‘perfect’ cover artwork. A mere trace of a hairline towards the bottom being ultra critical. Few will survive in such remarkable condition.

Corners: All again in remarkable condition with no wear, even to the tips. All retain superb shape and pointed definition and there are NO tip-ins.

Cover Summary: One of the most famous covers of all time, this does it little short of maximum justice – just wish I could show the main outer surfaces to prove the point. With so few blemishes this beautiful item should please most-all collectors.

The Inner Sleeves: Both the Polydor style lined inners are included and both in very fine condition. A mirror-image pair down to the last detail and digit, they have both aged a little with some toning around the edges which all remain unsplit. Both solidly lines with all the window circles crisp and neat, both barely creased at all. The adhesive on the seams has darkened.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: EXCELLENT(++) to MINT(-): a superb visual pair that are very clean, shiny, intense black and quite solidly pressed. A pair hardly played on all the evidence reitterated by fantastic clean sound, any surface marks are ultra fine and very few indeed as seen (just) under bright angled light. Visually super records that should please most most-all collectors.

Album Played For Grading: Yes. [I play ALL records I offer before submitting to Ebay, also the record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing B&W speakers that include the legendary tweeter from their awesome Nautilus range that reveals every blemish or miniscule sound present on any record.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: Both records play with superb audio quality and this too on one of the world’s most revealing turntables. Strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear. No pops or clicks and a very fine pressing that is practically devoid of any surface sounds – what a joy to hear this legendary album with no hidden nasties in pristine clean unworn grooves. This being the advantage of a little later-pressed copy that offers the benefits of all the same style of packaging without the use on old heavy-tracking record players, often mono ones that crippled the groove walls and their vital information. Both channels are clean, unstressed and focused. I am certain these records have been played very lightly, if indeed hardly at all and have been clearly well stored and looked after. Nothing spoilt my pleasure when play-grading this gem. This was produced and directed by Hendrix and it’s how the great man wanted it to sound - don’t mess with perfection. If your collection is missing this album, don’t hesitate, this copy will prove difficult to find better for looks and sound and it merits my highest possible recommendation.

End Piece: A legendary issue, this is a premier league album and artist. A copy that can be played and enjoyed to the absolute maximum - this will last indefintely if played on a modern quality deck and treated with the respect it deserves. Devoid of that dreaded distortion, scratches and groove wear, this will please all vinyl lovers, it will never need upgrading. A Track original in this type of condition would command huge prices, the only real difference is the label format – a super copy for the analogue enthusiast without the huge cost – makes perfect sense to me – you decide.

SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT necessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, actually a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.

The Argument for Vinyl Original sound and mix (mono mixes are rarely available on CD), high quality sound on clean copies (played on a hi-end dedicated analogue system – breathtaking sound!), beautiful, large format covers, artwork, inserts and even full size posters etc; huge investment potential, and the pleasure of owning ‘the real thing’.
