In 1995 the Avalon Press, on the Isle of Wight, decided to print two limited edition posters to mark the 25th anniversary of the 1970 Isle of Wight Festival.  Originally advertised in the Record Collector magazine, orders were received from all over the world.  For reasons now forgotten, the Avalon Press, perhaps because they had achieved their desire to commemorate the world renown festival, ceased advertising the posters. Over the years the idea of marketing them again was discussed but never done, always saying "maybe" or "perhaps in the future".  After laying parcelled up on a shelf gathering dust for the last twelve years it was decided that now is the time again, saying "it is to celebrate the 37th anniversary, after all we on the island will celebrate anything at a moments notice!". Originally sold seperately, it has now been decided to sell them as a pair.

The first poster is a superb reprint of an advertisement which appeared in the International Times, August 13th 1970.  The International Times was one of the anarchic, anti-establishment magazines at the time, copies of which are collectors items, and which makes this poster very special. Measuring 11.75 x 17.5 inches (300 x 445mm) the poster is printed on white quality paper, in two colours, black and blue to match the original. The blue ink was mixed specially for this poster. The poster is sharp and clear unlike the original advert printed on newsprint. A limited edition of 950 each poster comes complete with a numbered certificate.

 The second poster is a reprint of the rare 1970 Isle of Wight Festival handbill. The print has been enlarged to 18 x 7.25 inches (455 x 200mm). Printed in a specially mixed ink to match the burgundy colour of the original on a quality paper.Again a limited edition of 950, the print comes complete with a numbered certificate.

As with all true limited editions the printing plates were destroyed.

This poster looks superb when framed and will be rolled carefully and posted sealed in strong cardboard mailing tube.
