JIMI HENDRIX LP, BAND OF GYPSIES was released in 1970 on US CAPITOL RECORDS, CAT # STAO 472. All Jimi LPs are essential. This one is a live lp, his first recorded with a new band, The band of gypsies with Buddy Miles and Billy Cox. It was recorded at The Fillmore in NY on NYE 1969, and was tragically the last recorded full size LP in Jimi's short and amazing life. It veered more to the funk side, and with longer jams, and can be seen as one of a few influences in the rise of funk music in the 70's. There were few live LPs in rock in the 60s, and the one's who released live LPs were the one's who excelled in live performance. James Brown, and The Who quickly come to mind. So it was interesting that on Band of Gypsies first recorded effort they chose the live format. But it works, and the LP and band is perhaps unfairly under appreciated compared to the Experience LPs. With LPs that you can count on a hand, every one is essential, as Jimi is the quintessential guitar god in rock, even to this day 50 years later.
This is an excellent copy. A FIRST US PRESSING. It sports the ROBERT LUDWIG stamp on both sides, meaning that the great mastering engineer of our time, RL himself mastered this pressing. This is the one you want. The COVER is VG++, very slight ring wear and general wear, pretty sharp corners, slight wear on the bottom and top seams. The Spine is nice and readable. I always feel lucky to grab this green label copy in beautiful playing condition. The inside gatefold is in remarkably great condition. The labels are beautifully clean, and with no spindle marks. The LP plays EX. The vinyl has a few marks, has a nice gloss, and plays great with very slight (hard to hear) background sounds, etc.. A solid playing copy
