Quite RARE US first pressing of Jimmy Smith`s seminal album "The Sermon!" on Blue Note Records (1959).
On The Sermon! Jimmy Smith "constantly proves himself the most inventive organist of the bop generation. In moving beyond the classic organ trio format, Smith takes the organ into new areas. Trading solos with the likes of Lee Morgan and Lou Donaldson, he makes it plain that his is an individual voice worthy of its eventual place in the jazz canon." - allmusic.com

GRADING:

EX++ COVER with only lightest general wear. Please see photos for details.

- Original front-laminated US first pressing sleeve.

- Small blue ink stamp ("O") on rear sleeve (at top right).

- Light record imprint on the back cover.

- Also includes the original, custom-printed Blue Note Records inner sleeve in EX++ condition. Small (1 inch) seam split at bottom.

- Blue Note address stated as "43 West 61st St., New York 23" on back cover (at bottom, center).

EX++ RECORD, played a few times at most. Practically no visible wear and superb audio all the way!

- Minimal background crackle in between tracks, as well as in some quiet passages.

- A tiny scratchlet (1mm; 2 minutes into "J.O.S.") causes 3-4 very light clicks.

- Original deep groove pressing vinyl, 155 grams in weight.

- First pressing semi-gloss Blue Note labels with "New York USA" address and a few spindle lines on each side.

- Tiny blue ink stamp ("0") on the Side Two label.

- The matrix stamps in the run-off grooves read "BN-LP-4011-A" and "BN-LP-4011-B", respectively.

- Run-off grooves on both sides include the characteristic small "ear" logo, signed by "RVG".

PLEASE NOTE: Not to be compared with the more-often-than-not substandard vinyl on offer on eBay, this item is in honestly-graded EX++ condition: You will not find another copy of "The Sermon!" as nice as this one - especially at this bargain price. "True value for money" is the motto here!
