Description

PERCEPTION RECORDS  PLP 39 Please ask any questions before bidding / buying. The  cover is in vg+(very minor wear) condition. The vinyl is in vg++ condition. ALL northern soul, sweet soul fans, this is an extremely rare album by the one and only Mr. J. J. Barnes, "Born Again," on the Perception/Today Records label in New York.

Those looking for the R & B side of Barnes' earlier 60's Detroit soul era are won't find that here; the 70's "Born Again" has Barnes doing mid tempo, sweet soul, funk ballads of songs previously covered by then label mates Black Ivory ("Wishful Thinking"), Debbie Taylor ("Touching You"), some using the same backing tracks as the previous recordings; a new sound for Barnes, this presents a totally different soul side for the legendary singer.

The album, as most of the Perception/Today releases, suffered from lack of promotion and radio airplay, making this lp somewhat unknown, while taking Barnes' fans aback somewhat with a new sound on songs not written by Barnes. Nonetheless, once these musical obstacles are overcome, "Born Again" is found a masterpiece.

Grading chart is as follows:

ss = still sealed  album has never been opened

m = mint  only on very very rare occasion will I use this grade. (example: sealed album would have to be  opened and inspected to receive this grade)

nm = near mint  almost perfect. shiny with no visible defects, writings, or markings. Looks as though it has never been played.

vg++= very good plus plus-close to near mint

vg+ =  very good plus - very little but obvious wear (light scuffs or scratches)

vg = very good- more obvious flaws (not in as good shape as vg+) will not sell individual albums below this grade. (records of lower grades will usually be a throw in)
