JNR. WALKER & THE ALL STARS -  HOME COOKIN' (1968) TAMLA MOTOWN LP   This album appeared back in 1968 and is another piece of Walker magic    Spawning no less than four singles here in the UK, the first being the opening track a cover version of the Supremes classic 'Come See About Me' from 1964 - this is the definitive version with fabulous saxophone breaks     Junior doesn’t get much better than this, from the down-home cover photo to the funky grooves. The album features several chart hits, from the celebratory “Hip City” (both parts) to the smash ballad “What Does It Take (To Win Your Love).” Also included is the hit cover of the Supremes’ “Come See About Me” and the title track, surely one of the great bass performances of all time from Motown’s rock, James Jamerson.       By the end of the sixties the Motown sound as we had always known had begun to change into a more lazier feel than those classics five years earlier. That said however 'Hip City' (parts 1 & 2) was a throwback to the early sixties and was a pure R'n'B' workout in a similar style that Georgie fame would use to maximum effect here in the UK at the likes of London's Flamingo club during 1966.   The labels and vinyl are in near mint condition and the sleeve is excellent Plus
