Jo Ann Kelly's American debut was released in 1969 on Epic Records. It went nowhere. She became more of a cult British blues artist until her untimely death. This is pure solo Delta blues acoustic singing. If you didn't look at the bespectacled photo of her on the cover you could swear it was a black woman moaning away the blues. She was that serious.

Eleven songs of non stop hardcore solo blues might be too much for the uninitiated. "Come On In My Kitchen" is her signature song & it's damn good! For those into mainstream commercial rock I doubt this will be your cup of tea. The fact she was involved in the rock scene isn't mentioned much. She played with members of Fleetwood Mac in 2 obscure releases in a part time band called Tramp. She recorded an album with Tony McPhee of the blues rock UK band Groundhogs.

This is an album of a woman alone in the studio singing her heart & soul out with all defenses down in utter sincere conviction. The fact she knew it wasn't going to sell only makes it that much more important. There was a time when the music mattered, not the commercial fodder that exists up to this day. I defy anyone to find anyone else on a major record label today with 1/10th the passion as Jo Ann Kelly displayed almost 40 years ago. All by herself.

·       CONDITION:

·       THE RECORD

 (IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we  grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL AS EXCELLENT. This is one of those albums that are somewhat difficult to grade. It is somewhere between VG++ and NEAR MINT, just a notch below NEAR MINT. A few light abrasions ARE visible, but they are extremely shallow, superficial  and only moderately visually distracting (nothing significant).For the most part, the vinyl looks impeccable without any MAJOR visual flaws or imperfections. Much of the original luster is intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)          The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)           Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·                               THE COVER

THE COVER IS NICE --- ABOUT VERY GOOD++ (VG++).

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-        Cover has a small cutout corner visible

-        Cover has a visible "wrinkle"(crease)  in one of the corners and a smaller one in another.

-         Cover has JUST A HINT of ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 2.

-         Cover shows some light yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging.   (nothing significant)

-         Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the top seam   (nothing significant)
