Hard to find 1980 experimental vocal lp released privately by the artist on her own Wizard imprint. La Barbara multitracks and electronically processes her voice, transforming herself into an ensemble of experimental instruments on this album of original compositions taken from tape works, gallery installations, and live performances. Unique textures are created out of frantic whispering, hoarse moaning, speaking in tongues, circular breathing, and many other techniques, often incorporating vocoder and Buchla synthesizer modules. At times, these tracks sound like some of husband Morton Subotnick's manic synthesizer workouts, with their aggressive barrage of alien-sounding percussive noises and intense stereo effects. La Barabara cites Fluxus artist Emmett Williams, Dadaist Marcel Duchamp, and painter Paul Klee as inspirations for her stunning experimental vocal works. La Barbara is an experimental vocalist who studied under Helen Boatwright and is married to Morton Subotnick; she has worked with David Tudor, Phill Niblock, Robert Ashley, John Cage, Steve Reich, Jim Hall, Don Sebesky, Alvin Lucier, David Behrman, Merce Cunningham, Morton Feldman, Philip Glass, Kenneth Goldsmith, Judy Chicago, Lita Albuquerque, and James Tenney, and provided vocal sound effects for the Alien movies. Tracks on the LP from La Barbara : "Shadowsong", "Autumn Signal", "Quatres petites betes" and "Klee Alle" inspired by a Paul Klee painting.
Excellent- condition for vinyl and cover lies in vg++ condition with slight ring.
