Artist: JOAO DONATO
Title: “A Bad Donato”
Label: BLUE THUMB ~ BTS-8821. Stereo pressing on medium weight vinyl. White label with black text.
Year: 1970.
Condition:
DISC: NEAR MINT with 100% of original gloss, as clean as can be found. Appears to have been played one or two times at most, and handled with care. Labels are clean. Fidelity is superb. A gorgeous disc you will never need to upgrade.
JACKET: Gatefold jacket is nice VG+. Panels have light ring wear. Seams and spine have wear, and some chipping on the top. Original owner used clear tape to attach a list of song titles on the reverse. Cutout hole at upper right corner.

“João Donato, born in 1934, pianist and composer, but also arranger and conductor. In the 70s he lived in Los Angeles. (Although) the bossa nova was out of fashion, Blue Thumb Records offered him the opportunity to make the album of his choice while taking inspiration from the electric sounds in vogue at the time. He discovers electric keyboards, especially the Fender Rhodes, a real toy in his hands that he will tame and shape to extract the substantive marrow A Bad Donato (1970). At the borders of funk, psychedelic pop and jazz fusion, A Bad Donato is a deliciously groovy experimental work that still keeps its freshness and spontaneity 45 years later. A "released" album made "seriously" thanks to the participation of exceptional Jazz musicians like Bud Shank, Dom Um Romao and Oscar Castro Neves and arrangements in collaboration with Eumir Deodato. "The Frog" heard many times as generic radio broadcasts will remain well anchored in my subconscious as a timeless object. A Bad Donato is ranked 76th in the Rolling Stone ranking of the 100 best albums of Brazilian music.”
