Joe Pass is a talented and versatile jazz guitarist, who was hailed as the outstanding new guitar voice in the 1963 Downbeat critics poll, the same year he cut this album. His career had been stalled by drug rehab at Synanon House, where he was discovered by Richard Bock of Pacific Jazz.
Pianist Clare Fischer, featured on piano and organ, collaborated with Pass to make this album a success. Bass players Albert Stinson and Ralph Pena, and drummers Larry Bunker and Colin Bailey, alternated.
Bassist Albert Stinson, only 20 when this recording was made, had been a member of the Chico Hamilton quintet for two years, and was considered a prodigy in the order of Scott LaFaro and Gary Peacock.
The tunes include, Side One: 1. Falling in Love With Love, 2. Summertime, 3. Mood Indigo, 4. Catch Me (by JOE PASS). Side Two: 1. Just Friends, 2. Walkin’ Up, 3. But Beautiful, 4. No Cover No Minimum, 5. You Stepped Out of a Dream.
The monophonic recording was titled Catch Me!/Joe Pass, and released in 1963 as Pacific Jazz PJ-73. The record label is black with silver printing,
We play-graded the recording as NM-, with excellent mono sound. We listen to all records to avoid surprises. The vinyl has good shine and few, if any, scratches or scuffs.
The cover grade is a strong VG+, with some wear marks on both the front and back and a ding on the lower left corner.
