Joe Tex's most collectable and dance-floor-favourite 45s back-to-back on the Soul Food imprint. The hit side - UNDER YOUR POWERFUL LOVE - was first played as a new release at the famed Wigan Casino and the song reached its height of popularity at Stafford's Top Of The World club. Featuring Joe's trademark monologue the song tells the story of an argument between lovers in a motel room in Detroit. Joe, who is in the adjoining room, relates the events as they unfold into a dance floor classic! The flip side - I WANNA BE FREE - dates from 1965 and is Joe's rarest Dial 45 featuring a Southern style gritty driving-Soul belter. The sentiment of the song is that of a working man striving to feed his family and "break the chains that are biding" him. Unbelievable that this current indemander has escaped the Northern Soul fraternity for over 40 years!

These original Soul Food copies were manufactured in 2003 but were mispressed with plain white labels. They are from the original promotional batch and carry the same stamper marks in the run out groove. The labels were added for press and promotion and are offered here with the original company sales sheet.
