TOP SHELF DUB lp by melodica player JOE WHITE. This Jamaican-only pressed album--cover and wax--is totally Mint. (I've collected Jamaican music for over 30, but I play mostly sevens.) The wax plays clear, no surface noise, unlike a lot of JA. pressings. Also, the music is very strongly recorded and present, somewhat similar to BURNING SPEAR'S Garvey's Ghost lp. Unlike some dub albums which can sound lethargic, this one has energy and the music is great. WHITE, along with AUGUSTUS PABLO and PETER TOSH was one of the few accomplished melodica players. His solo-ing is very creative, like a jazz soloist, he will slip between major and minor notes for effect. Players include: SANTA DAVIS on drums, FULLY on bass, CHINNA on guitar, LESLIE BUTLER on organ and two ZAP POW men--DAVID MADDEN on trumpet and GLEN DACOSTA on sax.
