Ladies and gentlemen, I'm proud to present one of the rarest Johanna Martzy (violin) records in existence. It's the first pressing of her very first 33 RPM record ever on the famous German Deutsche Grammophon Gesellschaft label !!! See scans.
Wonderful performances of the following works:
Ravel: Berceuse sur le nom de Gabriel Faure / Piece en forme de Habanera.
De Falla: Danse espagnole de "La vida breve".
Szymanowski: Notturno e Tarantella, op.28 nos. 1 & 2.
Milhaud: Ipanema.
Jean Antonietti plays piano. Recorded August 27 & 28, 1951. Stunning recital !!!
Roumanian violinist Johanna Martzy (1924-1979) maintains a cult status among connoisseurs and record collectors. Her main teachers were Hubay, Vecsey, Szigeti, and Telmanyi. Like her contemporary Guila Bustabo, Martzy’s international career took off when at age 19 she performed the Tchaikovsky Concerto (1943) under Willem Mengelberg in occupied Budapest. Her post-war fame accelerated with a 1953 appearance in England, then a 1957 debut at the New York Philharmonic under Cluytens. A year later, she played Mendelssohn with Leonard Bernstein. Her tragically brief life ended just short of her fifty-fifth birthday.
Label: DGG 16 017. First pressing (ED1) from the early 50's with stitched all-yellowish fold-out cover and blue cloth tape at back seam.
The vinyl of this incredible rare German 10" LP is vg to vg+. Record plays with about twenty soft pops (and a couple of harder pops) on each side and some light background noise. Side two has some surfacemarks and some small pressing faults.
I played this record with a stereo cartridge so the sound quality and listening experience might improve considerably with a mono cartridge. Record might also profit from a professional cleaning. Please keep in mind that this record is over 50 years old !!!
Very very rare in any condition! No stereo exists. One of the rarest violin records in existence !!! One of the holy grails for chamber music collectors !!! This will not come again soon, bid now or cry later !!! Low starting price and no reserve !!!
