From 1959, comes this extremely rare 3 LP set by John Cage entitled The 25 Year Retrospective Concert of The Music Of John Cage on no label. It was a private press by George Avakian. It was recorded in performance at Town Hall, New York, May 15, 1958. Extremely rare 3 LP set with notes included in the box. Several of John Cage's artist friends, including Jasper Johns and Robert Rauschenberg were involved with this record! This was a limited edition of approximately 500. This copy is from my personal collection and was obtained directly from George Avakian in the late 80s. To my knowledge, it is the ONLY still sealed original of this LP! When I purchased it from George Avakian, he had a handful of open copies but only one sealed copy (this one). John Cage is only now being recognized as one of the 20th century's avant-garde greats! His music is starting to break out of cult status into the acceptable mainstream. John Cage is acknowledged as influencing the avant-garde from the mid 20th century on. His friends included many artists, such as Jasper Johns, Robert Rauschenberg,David Tooter and others. He was at the cutting edge of the avant-garde movement! It is extremely doubtful that there would be an avant-garde movement now if it were not for John Cage! As mentioned, this is probably the only SEALED copy in existence!
