Description

JOHN COLTRANE - A LOVE SUPREME

Eminently presentable, superb sound quality...a wonderful condition UK 1st press copy.

Year/Label : 1965 UK HMV
Label number : MONO CLP 1869

Matrix numbers : A 77 A - 1G   /   A 77 B - 1G
Stampers :  1 0  /  1 0
1965 John Coltrane gem on cherished UK HMV record label : excellent plus (EX+) condition vinyl - thick, weighty, completely flat, with earliest "1G" matrix numbering on each side, and in normal daylight each side of the vinyl comes across as unmarked, gleaming and retaining it's original jet black lacquered sheen - remarkable for a 58 year old record! With close inspection under a bright light you may just be able to detect just the very occasional small and extremely faint paper scuff along with a single equally faint 5cm surface scuff line on side 1 (you need to study the vinyl very closely when tilted to an angle in a bright light in order to identify it!)...each purely superficial and very trivial.  Near Mint (NM) condition labels - pristine, with not even the usual one or two faint spindle trails adjacent to the centre hole on each label, with the "K" and "T" tax codes clearly embossed upon the side 2 label. Clearly this is a record that has been little played.  Excellent plus (EX+) condition both sides laminated Garrod & Lofthouse flipback outer sleeve with firm unscuffed edges. The spine remains rigid with no scuffing and all spine text is perfectly intact. The corners are perfectly defined right angles with no rubbing at all, the opening edges are firm with no fraying, there is no cardboard creasing, the reverse side flipbacks are in great shape and all colours, photos and text remain in beautiful condition with superb clarity and definition. The only blemishes are just a few very light and non-obvious laminate surface creases (each 1cm or less) adjacent and perpendicular to the spine on the front side and a light vertical strip of yellow discolouration adjacent to the reverse side opening edge where it looks as though a strip of sellotape was once in place, though it is unclear as to the reason why since the light discolouration does not extend to the interior of the sleeve. Quirky!  Remarkable overall condition of this outer sleeve considering it's 58 year antiquity!  Near mint (NM) MONO audio quality with no skips, repeats, jumps, clicks, distortion or background crackle. Simply superb tone with stunning clarity throughout. Every track is a great listen and how can't they be with jazz greats such as John Coltrane (tenor sax), Jimmy Garrison (bass), McCoy Tyner (piano) and Elvin Jones (drums) at the top of their respective games!   Comes complete with excellent plus (EX+) condition original HMV poly-lined advertising inner sleeve with correct "PATENTS APPLIED FOR" text and no seam splits, no tears, no edge fraying, no age discolouration, and just a little mild creasing in two of the corners (note that I always insert the record into a brand new plain white poly-lined sleeve for shipping purposes in order to protect the original).
 John Coltrane at his very best - there can't be many better UK HMV 1st pressings in better condition than this.
POSTAGE COSTS :

For the UK £4 using Royal Mail tracked 48;

for continental Europe £13 using Royal Mail 1st class tracked and signed for,

and for the rest of the world £19 using Royal Mail 1st class tracked and signed for.

I do provide posting and packaging discounts for multiple purchases. I make no profit from postage.

Note that I always insert the vinyl into a new plain white poly-lined inner sleeve in order to protect the original during postage, and separate this from the outer sleeve to prevent seam splits. I use thick cardboard stiffeners and take great care in my packaging to ensure as far as possible that these precious records reach their destination in exactly the same condition as when they leave me.
