JOHN COLTRANE LP:

"ASCENSION"

IMPULSE ABC AS-95

Jazz musician Dave Liebman called Coltrane’s Ascension “the torch that lit the free jazz thing”. Recorded on June 28, 1865, this LP features one long track, split onto both sides of the album. The line-up of musicians includes Coltrane, tenor sax- Freddie Hubbard, trumpet- Art Davis, bass- Elvin Jones, drums- McCoy Tyner, piano- Marion Brown, alto sax- Pharoah Sanders, tenor sax- Archie Shepp, tenor sax- John Tchicai, alto sax- Dewey Johnson, trumpet- and Jimmy Garrison, bass. Wow. This is a Stereo pressing on the Impulse/ABC Label.

The cover is a beautiful gatefold made out of the thick cardboard and has the glossy laminate on the front and back. The laminate shows no peeling and retains most of its original gloss, with only a slight bit of surface wear if you look closely. It has the Stereo sticker on the front and back. There is no seam or spine splitting, no writing, and no tears anywhere on the cover. The record is very clean and under a strong lamp shows just a bit of surface rubbing and a few minor surface scuffs- there is nothing even close to being able to be felt. This album also still has its original ABC Records paper inner sleeve.

All LPs come packaged carefully in a sturdy corrugated box made specifically for mailing LPs plus a cardboard insert. The covers are placed in clear plastic record sleeves. The vinyl is removed from the cover (except for SEALED items) for shipping to prevent seam splitting during shipment.
