Description

“Blue Train" LP by John Coltrane on Blue Note 1577, original mono U.S. pressing from 1957.  His only LP for Blue Note as session leader, "Blue Train" is widely considered to be Coltrane's first true solo album, and one of his greatest classics.  This copy possesses all of the following sought-after features found on the earliest pressings:  The "47 West 63rd St." address on cover and labels, the "deep groove" beneath the labels, the "RVG" and "ear" markings in the dead wax and the "groove guard" or thick edge along perimeter of the disc.

Personnel:  John Coltran, tenor sax; Lee Morgan, trumpet; Curtis Fuller, trombone; Kenny Drew, piano; Paul Chambers, bass; "Philly" Joe Jones, drums.

Cover is VG due to some staining on back LR.  Otherwise very straight and solid with no bends, splits, tears, stickers or writing.  Lamination is still fully intact with no peeling, and there is only moderate overall wear to front and back.  A very displayable and great-looking cover!

Disc is VG with numerous light scuffs and scratches, but still has plenty of gloss with no chips or warps and very little wear.  Plays strong with great sound--the crackles are faint, the pops are few and there are no skips, so there is little to detract from your enjoyment of this incredible music.  The sound would probably be even better after a good machine cleaning, but I prefer to leave that to the discretion of the winning bidder.

Labels are VG+ with very little wear, and no writing, stickers, stains or fingerprints.  Some colorless spindle scratches around the hole show up only at a certain angle to the light, so these labels still display beautifully!

Not the ultimate copy, just a very respectable, collectible and ATTAINABLE copy of one of the Holy Grails of jazz collecting.  Don't miss your chance to be one of the few who can claim to own an ORIGINAL!
