John Coltrane - My Favorite Things 

(Atlantic SD 1361 USA LP 1961)

 

This is an early 1960's, circa 1963,  USA Stereo LP pressing. It has a heavyweight front laminated sleeve which has an embossed "Stereo" on the front. It has its original "Atlantic" company paper inner sleeve. This advertises other LP's available at the time (up to 1963). The record is pressed on thick vinyl and has green & blue "Atlantic" labels. These are grooved, but not deep grooved. The matrix numbers are as follows:

Side 1: ST-A-60303-A
Side 2: ST-A-60304-B
"AVCO" is etched in the dead wax on both sides.

This is a rare early 1960's U.S. Stereo pressing of this classic Modern Jazz LP. Technically it is a 2nd pressing. However, the sleeve is the same as a 1st U.S. pressing. The sleeve is in great overall condition too. The only difference between this pressing and a 1st pressing, is that the 1st U.S. pressing has "Deep Grooved" Atlantic labels. This pressing does not.


Sleeve: There is some light, mild or very mild rubbing wear to the front edge of the sleeve opening. This is mainly at the bottom half of the front sleeve opening. There is some light, mild or very mild rubbing wear to the corner tips. There is a very tiny 0.3 cm tear at the rear sleeve opening. This is near the bottom & hardly notices. Overall, a very nice and clean copy! The spine is in superb condition. Very NEAR EX condition.

Vinyl: Firstly, unfortunately there are two hairline marks on the last track on Side 1. They measure 4 cm and 2 cm in length. They cause some intermittent clicks for a period of time (Please see below for a more detailed playback description). There is also a further 5 cm intermittent hairline mark in that area. There are some light, mild or very mild sleeve rubs which can only be seen under a strong light. There is a very light 4 cm hairline mark, & a light 1 cm hairline mark too. The paper inner sleeve, over time, has left some light, mild or very mild marks. These, again, can hardly be seen under a strong light. VG- condition. The labels are in Excellent condition. There is a small & very minor stain on one label. This hardly notices. Otherwise, minimal spindle wear. The Atlantic paper inner sleeve is in Very Good+ condition. It shows light, mild or very mild ringwear & creasing. There is a very small 1 cm tear at the top opening on one side only. It has no seam splits.

I have play tested this LP in its entirety. As stated, there are a couple of hairline marks on the last track on Side 1 that cause some clicks. Firstly, one if the hairline marks causes some very mild, mild and a few more moderate intermittent clicks for approximately 1 minute 20 seconds. There are a further 3 or 4 mild clicks slightly later on. There are, again,  further light or mild intermittent clicks toward the very end of the side. These last for approximately 30 seconds. The record does not jump. Obviously, please refrain from bidding if you are offended by repetitive clicks on a record. To summarize, there are some intermittent clicks for approximately 2 minutes of the last track on Side 1.

Otherwise, the rest of the album plays Near Excellent to Excellent. There is some light or very minor crackle in some quieter places.

    >>  Grading Information All grading is very strict & adheres to 'Record Collector' specifications. However, I have fine tuned them & they are explained below. All vinyl is examined closely under a strong light & play tested on excellent quality audio equipment.

MINT Condition = This is as perfect a copy as you are likely to find. The cover will show no, or next to no, wear. The vinyl will be unplayed or very, very near unplayed.

NEAR MINT Condition = Nearly mint, just slightly under. There maybe some minor paper/ inner sleeve rubs that can only be seen under strong light. This disc has been played only a few times & has been extremely well  cared for. The cover is nearly perfect - Minimal wear only.

EX Condition = An excellent copy will show only mild, or minor, signs of use. There will be light, or very mild, sleeve rubs that can only be seen under strong light. There may be a very small & minor hairline mark in some instances. Play will be excellent or better. There may be some light, or very light, crackle in a few quieter places. There will be no clicks or pops. The sleeve will show mild, or minor, rubbing wear & ringwear only.

NEAR EX Condition = This has been played a few more times but it has been well cared for. There will be mild sleeve rubs which can be seen under a strong light. There may be a couple of minor, or light, hairline marks. Playback will be generally excellent. There may be some light or mild crackle in some quieter places. The cover will show mild rubbing wear, ringwear or creasing

VG Condition = Most records that have been quite well played, but reasonably well cared for, tend to fit into this category. This is probably the most varied of the gradings so I have elaborated below.

There may be mild to more moderate sleeve rubs which can only be seen under a strong light. There may be a few light hairline marks but nothing too bad. A quite well played but serviceable copy. Playback will be very agreeable overall. There will be light or mild crackle in some places. There may also be a few light clicks. A more thorough description will always be on the listing. The record will certainly not be trashed!

The cover will show more noticeable signs of storage or use. There will be mild to more moderate rubbing wear on some edges There could be fading, ringwear or a minor seam split. There could be some mild creasing or mild sticker tears.

Please note that I also use "+" or "-" symbols for this grading. A plus symbol is obviously at the top end of "Very Good" & is really not far from being in "near excellent" condition. The minus symbol obviously means it is at the lower end. This will mean that it is near to being in "Good+" condition.

Royal Mail have very recently increased their postage rates. So I have revised my postage costs to reflect their increases. (Please note that these prices include packaging costs too) 
Double LPs are classed as two LPs. Also posters, inserts, etc.. can increase postage costs. One parcel must not exceed 2kg (approximately 4-6 LPS).

All records will be sent in high quality vinyl mailers with at least two card stiffeners either side of the LP or 7" Single. I use a cruciform box for larger orders (3-6 LPs). All parcels will be marked "Fragile" and dispatch time will generally be between 1-3 days after payment.

I will also remove the vinyl from the sleeve & place them in a re-sealable polythene sleeve. In order to prevent seam splits. Depending on the inner sleeve; I often remove the vinyl from the inner sleeve & place it in a separate plain paper, or polythene-lined, plain inner sleeve. I am very conscientious and careful when packaging your LP(s).

I consider my postage & packaging costs to be very transparent & very fair. Packaging costs will generally be between £0.80 to £1.50. I am not adding any further costs for handling, etc...
