Description

Scarce vintage jazz LP featuring JOHN COLTRANE on the BLUE NOTE label, from 1957.  Title is “BLUE TRAIN.”  Monaural pressing, catalog number is BLP 1577.

Record is thick vinyl, with deep groove.

Label address on both sides is "BLUE NOTE RECORDS  * 47 WEST 63rd * NYC.”  No "R"registry symbol.

Matrix number is hand-etched and “RVG” is machine stamped in runout area, with "ear" symbol on both sides.  Jacket states "For Complete Catalog Write to BLUE NOTE RECORDS, 47 West 63rd St., New York 23" on reverse at bottom.

Personnel consist of the following:  Lee Morgan – trumpet;  Curtis Fuller – trombone;  John Coltrane – tenor sax;  Kenny Drew – piano;  Paul Chambers – bass;  "Philly" Joe Jones – drums.

Side 1:

  • Blue Train
  • Moment's Notice

Side 2:

  • Locomotion
  • I'm Old Fashioned
  • Lazy Bird

Jacket:   Jacket is in NM- condition, with no significant flaws.  Front art work is clean and bright.  No splits or stickers.  There is a very slight, very faint  small moisture stain on the reverse at the top, almost unnoticeable.  Shows very slight traces of surface wear beginning to appear on reverse.  Corners are very crisp and well-defined.   Overall a beautiful jacket you will be proud to display.

Vinyl:  Vinyl is very clean with nice original gloss, displays several light hairline marks on each side that produce softly audible tics in a few places, particularly at the beginning of the sides.  I would give it a grade of VG+.  There are no serious problems, and very little wear.  Fidelity is excellent.  This is a very nice playing copy of this essential early Blue Note gem.
