The first ever release of this dynamic live concert performance from John Cougar Mellencamp, a live concert from John Mellencamp's hometown as part of his mighty 1986 'Uh Huh' Tour. By 1982, American Fool, his 5th album, topped the US album chart; "Jack And Diane" and "Hurts So Good" both entered the billboard singles chart top 10, and John became the first male artist to have two Top Ten singles and the #1 album simultaneously. In November '84 he officially changed his name to John Cougar Mellencamp, his album Uh-Huh climbed to US#9, while "Crumblin' Down" again enters the top 10. In February 1984 "Pink Houses" became his biggest single to date hitting number 6. During the recording of Uh-Huh, Mellencamp's backing band settled on the lineup it would retain for the next several albums: Kenny Aronoff on drums and percussion, Larry Crane and Mike Wanchic on guitars, Toby Myers on bass and John Cascella on keyboards. Indeed it was this band - which in 1989 Rolling Stone magazine called "one of the most powerful and versatile live bands ever assembled" - who hit the road with John in March for the mighty Uh Huh Tour. While on the 'Uh Huh' tour the band stopped off in John's birth state, Indiana, for a show at the capital city's university. This live concert was played specifically for the local community and those lucky enough to have been able to obtain a ticket. The performance speaks for itself and the varied track list makes for a hugely enjoyable listening experience Of course Mr. Mellencamp would go on to become one of the world's biggest musical stars, retaining an enormous fan-base to this day and still releasing albums and playing shows at a rate of knots. But it is with joy and delight that the producers of this CD are able to present and make available perhaps the finest live show John Cougar Mellencamp ever played, despite being from a relatively early part of his career, and just as he was on the cusp of achieving enormous fame and celebrity. It is a limited pressing of only 1000 pieces, if you want it now is the time to purchase before it is gone!
