This is a **very rare** copy of John Denver's first solo lp recorded shortly after he joined the Chad Mitchell Trio. He was 21 years old at the time and the lp beautifully reflects the youth and clarity of his voice.
It is one of only 250 copies that he had privately pressed and gave as Christmas presents to his friends. It was recorded at Goldstar Recording Studio in Losa Angeles and Bell Sound Studios in New York City.
This copy is inscribed to Odetta, the folk icon who inspired so many folk musicians of John Denver's age. The inscription reads:
"Odetta, You are a very lovely lady;as a person, warm and sensitive, as a singer, captivating. I am proud to know you and for you to have this part of me - John Denver" This album is also the first time that he recorded his classic hit "Babe, I Hate To Go," which was later changed to "Leaving On A Jet Plane" and made popular by folk trio Peter Paul, and Mary.
He also covers four popular Beatles songs: "Here There And Everywhere," "Yesterday," "And I Love Her," and "In My Life" along with other popular folk songs. The vinyl is in Near Mint condition. The recording is mono and reflects that when played back. No scratches or skips.
Note: The photos of the cover have been scanned. The photos of the vinyl have been taken with a camera as the scanner glass has some scratches that would show up. What you see in the photos is the reflection off of the vinyl. Again, there are no scratches or marks on the vinyl. The cover is in Good+ condition with the top being cleanly split and a 2"split on the bottom right. Some minor scuffing and slight ring wear.
This is the only copy on eBay at this time and it rarely appears.
This lp would made a great addition to any collection for serious John Denver fans and is a wonderful selection for a holiday gift!
