JOHN E. PAUL DEMO I WANNA KNOW c/w PRINCE OF PLAYERS 1967 DECCA F 12685

On offer is The JOHN E. PAUL 45 rpm entitled I WANNA KNOW c/w PRINCE OF PLAYERS released in the UK on round DECCA F 12685 in 1967. The A side is actually Prince of Players but it is the B side I Wanna Know which is of much more interest to soul collectors. This demo is on the round Decca label (it is NOT the later reissue on boxed Decca). Also the matrix numbers - XDR 41387 on the B side and XDR 41386 - are inverted (which is the case for original Decca demos of this period). Finally the release date of 27-10-67 is on the A side of the demo which again confirms this to be a 1967 demo.

This rare demo is visually graded at only G+ as it has numerous marks on both sides (but especially on The Prince of Players).  It plays VG throughout I WANNA KNOW – but plays at a lower quality on THE PRINCE OF PLAYERS  where there is surface noise and clicks more or less throughout the track. Curiously this demo has been played more on THE PRINCE OF PLAYERS. Overall this is a collection filler to have in the collection until that elusive EX copy turns up. The labels are nice and clear and it comes in an original Decca label sleeve. This has been in my collection for several years and is the only example of this rare Northern soul demo that I have ever seen. PLEASE do not bid if you after an EX copy as (to repeat) this is visually G+ on the vinyl and plays VG on I Wanna Know. However this could be the copy for you if you happy to have it as a collection filler (as I was).
