I am parting with some of my treasured LPs. Here's a great record from 1967. It is the ORIGINAL MONO PRESSING of JOHN FAHEY'S amazing LP REQUIA, and in great shape. The front cover shows some record rubbing at the bottom front, and very small dings to a couple corners. There's a punch hole top left. The back cover is outstanding with slight age toning. The seams and spine are all very nicely intact and looking excellent with one half inch cut to the top seam. The LP looks to have never been played much at all. Despite all the years on this LP, I'm calling it MINT. It has a full beautiful as new shine to both sides with not even a notice of any hairlines or anything. It is perfect. And the labels are pristine as well. The STAMPERS on both sides end in 1A signifying an early first press.
JOHN FAHEY is simply one of America's greatest guitarists. He should be held up on a higher pedestal than he is, but that is probably due to the differences in the way music fans rank the electric vs. the acoustic guitar. It's the same with keyboards. Keith Emerson was the Hendrix of the keyboards, but he died with relatively little fanfare. What Fahey did in an amazing career is worth digging into. All of his LP's are great, even he Christmas LP's, which usually isn't my thing. He took from is blues and folk hero's, and almost singlehandedly created an Americana of rootsy minimalism and primitivism in a fingerpicking style. He also gets kudos for searching out Bukka White, the amazing country blues artist, and recording him. He traveled extensively throughout the south, and busted into basements filled with old 78 records in search of every Charley Patton 78, and he complied the definitive collection, later releasing it as a huge CD box set called Screaming and hollering the blues. That was a huge gift that he gave us. He also started his own record label Takoma Records based in his hometown of Takoma MD. He took on artists like Leo Kottke, and Robbie Basho, and others to make sure great artists would get attention. His compositions are filled with nuances, changing tones, tunings, and patterns, the unexpected at just the right time. He was a master, and IMO, just as much so as a Hendrix, maybe moreso... This is just an outstanding copy of one of the real greats. A treasure of an artist, and an artist that wasn't popular, didn't sell well, but had a loyal following of serious music fans. I'm thrilled to offer this LP here.
I love original original pressings because I feel every LP is of it's time and place. The vinyl, and record pressings are all from that moment in time, and no re-pressing or re-mastering will ever make the sound better for me.
