John L. Watson : White Hot Blue Black 2W / 2W 1st Stereo Press 1970 Deram

This first pressing from the ex vocalist of The Web plays with stunning quality with only one light click on each side and a small number of minor statics which are not intrusive.  Having listened to the album in full I can confirm the clarity, depth, warmth and power of the audio is 'high end' - it is a superb listen.  Not surprising in a way because the vinyl itself is in lovely condition and has been so well preserved down the decades.

The non-laminated cover is in very good condition and the original blue stereo inner is in excellent condition, Ex- is fair.

Visual description

The vinyl is in lovely condition and still has a superb glossy sheen with no marks or scratches.  Under a bright light I can only see a handful of ultra faint hairlines and even they are difficult to locate!  The Deram labels are pristine with no noticeable spindle wear.  A stunning example.

Play grading

The intro on 'Ain't Doin' Too Bad - Parts 1 & 2' plays with amazing clarity and Watson's opening vocal is equal to that.  It continues in much the same way although there is one light click a little further in but that is the only interference across the entire track.  There is no background static and the bluesy / rock instrumental plays with incredible power and depth.  Part 2 has a handful of light static ticks on the quiet 'intro' but the remainder plays perfectly.  The long fade out has not one dust tick by the way.  A grade ranging Ex+ and Mint- is a fair reflection of the audio here.  A superb version.

'A Mother's Love' plays with stunning clarity through every groove with no background whatsoever, not bad for a track with a number of relatively quiet sections.  What a voice!  Mint

'I Pity The Fool' is as close to perfect as could be.  There is just one light tick in the middle section, that is the only background throughout the entire track.  Watson's vocal is often quite powerful here but there is no distortion on the top end.  Another stunning version with another perfect fade out.  Near Mint

The intro on 'Monday Monday...' is quite long and yet the clarity is mesmerising!  A 55 year old vinyl!  The opening vocal is just as clean and from then on it plays with a quality that is second to none.  The instrumental near the end / final vocal have no intrusion and it has to grade as Mint- at the minimum.

'Chains Of Love' has 3/4 very light ticks on the intro and the first vocal then plays perfectly with no background.  This high end level is kept up to the very end so I will say Ex+ for the intro and Mint from then onwards.

Watson's self penned 'Might As Well Be Gone' plays incredibly well with barely any intrusion.  There is one dull sound on the intro but you hardly notice it.  His opening vocal plays with sublime quality and the mid instrumental is equal to that, 'as new' basically.  From start to finish it plays with outstanding clarity and definition including the first fade out and easily grades as Mint-

The very quiet intro on 'By Myself' plays with great clarity and from then on there is no decrease in quality.  Demonstrating again how well this vinyl has been preserved - it plays with stunning quality from the first note to the last.  Mint

'You Ain't Nothing But A Devil' is just as strong - a more powerful up tempo number it nonetheless plays with superb sonic quality and there are no ticks, clicks, pops or static - no intrusion at all.  Mint

The brass intro on 'Danger Zone' has no background and the opening vocal is close to that with just the one light click.  From then on it plays so clearly for a final track and there is no other interference.  Great power and depth in equal measure and no distortion.  The vocals are clean and precise and the closing instrumental is off the chart good!  A Near Mint- conclusion to this fine album.

The Cover & Inner Sleeve

The cover has some shelf wear but not an excessive amount as the photos show.  The top edge is in excellent shape and the bottom edge and spine have a little more rubbing.  The four corners have light wear and the opening edge has only very minimal handling wear.  The front cover has some ringwear, minimal fading around the edges and still has the original price sticker in the top right corner.  The back cover has some light creasing, some ringwear and this cover also has the mono / stereo indicator hole which remains in great condition.  A respectable example.

The original poly-lined blue stereo inner sleeve has no side splits or tears and very little creasing.  It has minimal light marking only.

Play tested on my Rega P2 with AT-VM95EN Cart / Denon PMA-520AE Amp / B&W 684 Speakers

This record has been cleaned on my Pro-Ject VC-S machine

I will only send items items worldwide via tracked shipping.  This provides 'peace of mind' in case of loss or damage.  The shipping costs are shown below and combined shipping is always offered.  Any over-payment will always be refunded.

The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD).  An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known.  Because of this I will sometimes have to estimate the cost and this will be shown in the listing.  Please wait for the invoice before making payment and if you have any questions please feel free to ask.  Many thanks.

All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection.  They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection.  I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.

The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each.  There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up!  Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
