Description
Up for auction is a copy of Imagine by John Lennon, released in 1971 on Apple, cat no PAS 10004, a UK pressing. What makes this copy particularly unusual is that the rear cover has been misprinted, such that Lennon’s head is “facing east” (towards the album’s spine) rather than the usual “facing north” (towards the album’s upper edge). Thus the typography on the rear cover runs along the open (left hand) edge, rather than the bottom edge (see photo three for comparison with a standard copy; the copy for sale is the lower copy). I’ve only ever seen one other copy like this, and I’ve seen many many copies of “Imagine” in my lifetime. I guess it’s probably an early pressing that was withdrawn due to the printing issues; the very low mother/stamper number on the a-side would seem to bear this out. Whatever it is, it’s very rare.
Condition: vinyl has a few very minor marks, nothing feelable or affecting play. 1-U master, “Pecko” in the dead wax. 1-G stamper on the a-side, 2-GHM on the b-side. Cover has a few laminate creases, but nothing too serious; no writing, tears or splits. No poster or postcard, but the inner sleeve is present (though a little tired). VG+ all round.
My grades: I use a 10-point scale: M-; EX; VG+; VG; VG-; G+; G; G-; F (fair); P (poor). I never use mint as a grade for used records. I am a long-time (25+ years!) record collector, and play-grade where possible. I don’t use stock photos: the item in pictured here is the item for sale.
