When John Lennon got into some publishing trouble he had to end up recording a whole album worth of oldies, just so the right’s holders would feel they got their pound of flesh. In the process, we got some interesting versions of oldies that were near & dear to Lennon’s heart and this was one of the best of the lot.
This is the advance promo of the newest John Lennon single “Stand By Me” that went out to radio in March of 1975. This has the same song on both sides, one in mono, the other in stereo. It bears the unique promo number PRO 8090. It’s an advance from his Lp ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll.’
