Electric Blues meets Heavy Psychedelia, and they all have a blastin’ recording session. This, in brief, could be the subtitle of this album which - to my ears - remains one of the best, if not THE best album John Mayall ever recorded. For me, personally, John Mayall was one of the mere handful of white musicians who could REALLY play the blues - and feel it (The others being, in no particular order: John Hammond Jr, Paul Butterfield, S.R. Vaughan and Allman Brothers, in their early incarnation.. Well, OK, Rolling Stones, too around their "Beggars Banquet phase, but that’s pretty much about it).This album assembles in one place the landed aristocracy of British Blues. The musicians read like a proverbial who-is-who of British Blues revival, circa 1968: John Mayall - Chris Mercer - Dick Heckstall-Smith - John Hiseman - Henry Lowther - Mick Taylor (yes, THAT Mick Taylor) - Tony Reeves. The songs are all Mayall originals: Bare Wires - Where did I belong - I started walking - Open up a new door - Fire - I know now - Look in the mirror - I’m a stranger - No reply - Hartley quits - Killing time - She’s too young - Sandy. A rare piece of British Blues Psychedelia, and a nice way to be re-introduced to the Granddaddy of the White Blues. How come John Mayall hasn’t been nominated for R&R Hall of Fame yet? Is it possible that - for once - being an Englishman is a disadvantage?.

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL  AS  NEAR MINT. Some VERY LIGHT AND SUPERFICIAL abrasions – mostly sleeve scuffs -  are (barely) visible, but are probably inaudible,  and do not affect visual integrity or beauty of the vinyl. The original luster is very much intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)            The record comes in a poly-lined inner sleeve, which has - apparently with success - shielded the vinyl from the harmful impact of elements over many years!

(c)           The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(d)          The record has a "deep groove" (an indent in the label about 1/2-inch from the edge of the label, which on SOME labels is associated with very early or first pressings).

(e)           Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

(f)            US Mono copies of this album are NOT known to exist.

·       COVER (THIS IS THE ORIGINAL, LAMINATED, GLOSSY COVER):

THE COVER IS NICE --- ABOUT EXCELLENT OR VERY GOOD+++.

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-         The laminated cover has a few air 'bubbles' and wrinkles in lamination (this is a common problem with most laminated 50’s and 60’s covers

-        Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the spine

-         Cover has one corner slightly compressed (nothing significant)

-         Cover shows some light yellowing on back side, apparently from aging.

-         Minor shelf wear noted on the seams (nothing significant)

-         Cover has JUST A HINT of ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 1.

NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER:

-        No split seams

-        No cut-out (drill) holes.

-        No cut-out corners

-        No saw-marks or indents

-        No dirt/dust rubbing stains (friction marks caused by rubbing against other covers)

-        No writing

-        No stamps

-        No peel-off marks

-        No stains

-        No mold or mildew spots

-        No stickers or labels

-        No water damage

-        No razor marks, scratches, pressure marks, lines, streaks, or  cuts.

-        No warping

-        No wax, glue, paint or liquid drops on the cover

-        No glue traces or wax residue.

-        No bar codes

-        No RIAA stamps or stickers.
