John Pantry, UNRELEASED PIANO DEMO, circa 1967/68, "Out of the Blue," on an acetate marked "John Pantry Freaks Out" (writing is original)
Among the last of my John Pantry listings is this wonderful unreleased demo from around 1968. I've given it the title "Out of the Blue" based on the lyrics which seem to go:
"Out of the blue, she rang, we had a heart to heart.
Put down the phone and sang, I knew we'd never part."
The song is very catchy, classic late 60s John Pantry pop and compares easily to the material on Upside Down World. It is likely to be one of the last Pantry demos on the market for while, at least as far as his 60s material is concerned. Since this one appeared a couple of years ago there have been no new discoveries. Interestingly, the seller of this acetate told me that he recently got it directly from Pantry who had had it stored with other records. The acetate is only in good to fair condition but it plays rather well with no major problems, except crackles. A very worthwhile investment.
