Very Rare Original UK Folk Psych Pop LP released on Philips Records in 1972. 1st UK pressing on the Black label, the sleeve is laminate don the front and back.
This is his first solo LP, although when it was published in late 1972, John Pantry was already an experienced musician and sound technician. In 1965 he was apprenticed under the legendary IBC studios in London, where he had the chance to work with Shel Talmy and Glyn Johns, and also means the controls on recordings by, among others, The Who and The Small Faces.
In 1966 a group Sounds Around who, after a couple of singles, become Peter & The Wolves. With this name published five singles between 1967 and 1970. Also involved in multiple recordings for other artists, and some of their own discs appear in other names: Norman Conquest, The Bunch, and The Factory are closely associated with John Pantry and his group.
In 1970, John left his partnership with the entrepreneur and producer Eddie Tre-Vett, a relationship that was immersed in, perhaps, too many activities. In recent times had been recording and playing live with Peter & The Wolves, participating in other recordings, recording demos of his many songs with a view to placing them with other artists, or operating the buttons on many recordings at IBC, for example, in the first LPs by The Bee Gees.
The latest incarnation of Peter & The Wolves in 1972, his first and only LP, although almost in secret: The disk came with the name shortened to Wolfe, was published by a subsidiary of Motown, Rare Earth, and was released only in USA. A curious record in your own songs alternating with some versions, somewhat eccentric one of them.
Shortly after the end of the year, the Philips label gave the green light to "John Pantry", John's first album proper. The disc, with the orchestration and production based Australian David MacKay, clearly shows the sensitivity of John Pantry for melody. My favorite might be "This Woman's Love", which has already released Kris Ife in 1968 or the charming "Jewel." Curiously, the only version of the disc corresponds to "October Song" song by Robin Williamson belonging to the first LP by The Incredible String Band, John Pantry and get that look your own.
