This is one of the most exciting Rocking records ever released on IKON! JOHN ROSASCO takes front and center pounding out some great sounding Organ on both sides. This is an Organ-lead combo sound with exciting guitar work! Both songs are featured on the 2CD "The IKON Records Story" issued on Frantic Records in 2005! Esteemed music writer ALEC PALAO writes in the CD liner notes "One of the most-professional-sounding teen outfits that released an IKON record, the JOHN ROSASCO QUARTET...featured group leader and namesake ROSASCO who also authored the ultra-commercial sounding "COME RUNNING TO ME"! (Bass player MIKE KOONTZ ["KOONER"] went on to manage the flagship Tower Records store in Sacramento for thirty years.) Guitarist DAVE QUALEY remembers that "most of the 'push' for the 45 we did through the schools, getting kids to call in and ask to have it played. Back then that used to work. We started together in junior high school, then high school....John was the total force in the group, being pretty much a boy-wonder on the piano, and we were basically just his back-up group....We used to play almost every weekend for the country clubs around the Sacramento area. In 1965, we won the Battle Of The Bands at the California State Fair." By then the group was fully into British mode but split up the following year....ROSASCO moved to Los Angeles, cut a solo record for Uni Records, and went on to produce Christian Rock in Nashville." "RUNNING" reveals a heavy British influenced sound, while "SHIFT" is a driving Hot Rod Rocker with a harmonica solo! This is a smokin' record, Jack! At the time of this recording, I worked at IKON Records stocking shipments of 45's and setting up the studio for recording sessions. I worked there under the direction of my mentor [and older cousin] JIM BARKLEY. I worked there during 1964-65 off and on. In 1966, still a high school junior, I got my first radio gig as an all-night Jazz DJ and dropped my work at IKON. JIM used to allow me in the control booth during sessions and let me watch the recording process. I remember meeting ERIK WANGBERG but our time at IKON barely overlapped and I wasn't around for much of his work there. Needless to say, I have great memories of my time at IKON and profound thanks to JIM BARKLEY for his introduction into the world of music where I spent the next 30 years. R.I.P. JIM.
