This is the JOHN RYDGREN Cantata New Life LP, rare strange Xian Psych, private pressing produced for Public Service Broadcast by Lutheran Churches of America in observances of the 450th Reformation Anniversary. I just happened to find this out in an old warehouse full of records and the vinyl is VG to VG+ with some light surface scratches side 2, but I played it a little bit and it sounds pretty good with just some slight surface noise. The cover, however, has some fairly heavy wear. Looks like it got some water damage to bottom at one time as there are some water stains along bottom and edges of inside gatefold jacket. The bottom front seem is split all the way across and the back seem has split about half way in and some heavy corner wear lower right. The cantata booklet is still attached to inside gatefold, but has rusted staple and slightly musty from being in storage for decades. Despite the cover wear, still a very rare LP at a great price (top copies of this have sold for over $300 before on Ebay)!!
Listed in the famous Acid Archives book :"possibly Rydgren's crowning achievement. In cooperation with composer Robert Way, a 25 minute eclectic musical mass mixes superbly with Rydgren's raps on the existential confusion of youth in modern society, and how Christianity possibly holds the key. As with all his recordings, the questions are asked in such a mindbendingly cool way that the answers sort of get lost in the haze, which is part of the strongly pyschedelic nature of the material. The music ranges from modernist classical over exotica to contemporary "rock" and is as impressive as Rydgren's dramatic narration. As good as it gets in the Christian incredibly strange field."
